    Position Overview:

    Accurately researches data / information for the clinical evaluation by the pharmacist. Provides effective orientation and training of a new technicians, pharmacists or students. Interviews patients to collect information on their medication taken prior to hospitalization. Contacts the patient's pharmacy to obtain their active medication list. Helps the pharmacist to accurately perform medication reconciliation. Will contact the patients insurance carrier to get approval for their discharge medication. Performs follow up call 48-72 hours after discharge to see if there were any issues with the access to the discharge medications. Can accurately navigate through EPIC to obtain information on patient's medications, physicians notes, and the medication list from the outpatient facilities. Functions effectively as a pharmacy technician, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AS TYPICALLY ACQUIRED IN:

    - 2 years experience performing the duties of a Pharmacy technician is required in a hospital or outpatient / retail pharmacy.
    - Working knowledge of hospital pharmacy is desired

    • Other: Graduation from an accredited Pharmacy Technician program
    • OR " Met Board of Pharmacy requirements to obtain registration" 

    CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

    • PHRMTECHR-Registered Pharmacy Technician
    • OR PHARMC-Certified Pharmacy Technician
    • OR TCH-Pharmacy Technician

    TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

    • 1 year recent relevant experience.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

    • Knowledge of medical terminology, generic and trade pharmaceutical names, pharmaceutical calculations and laws and regulations.

    • Knowledge and understanding of different Pharmacy practice settings, including narcotic delivery and procedures.

    • Knowledge and ability to identify and employ pharmaceutical and medical terms, abbreviations and symbols commonly used in prescribing, dispensing, and record keeping of medications.

    • Requires a basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards including National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), The Joint Commission (TJC), Title XXII, United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and United States Pharmacopeia (USP).

    • Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.

    • Well-developed time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized operating procedures and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.

    • General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook), related pharmaceutical technology, EHR, and EPIC.

    • Carry out calculations and execute basic math skills needed for common dosage determination.

    • Prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.

    • Work independently, as well as be part of the team, including accomplishing multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions.

    • Ensure the privacy of each patient’s PHI.

    • Identify, evaluate, and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options.

    • Build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.

    • Ability to perform basic pharmacy buyer duties.

    Pay Range is $31.13 to $43.58 / hour

    The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health’s comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
