    Overview

    Working collaboratively as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, the Inpatient Psychiatric Counselor provides individual and group interventions under the direct supervision of a licensed occupational therapist in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

    Responsibilities

      1. COMPETENCY/REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS/TRAINING
    • 4.1 Has an accurate understanding of and demonstrates adherence to all departmental, hospital and health system policies and procedures, inclusive of infection control policy, hand hygiene policy, and professional boundaries.
      1. PATIENT CARE DUTIES
    • 5.1 Participates in the ongoing development of the therapeutic milieu/environment, creatively shapes group programming and milieu activities to meet the needs, abilities, and preferences of all patients.

    Qualifications

    EDUCATION

    Associate degree in Psychology, Counseling or other health-related field; Bachelor degree preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    EXPERIENCE

    Minimum 1-2 years of direct clinical experience working in mental health settings, including the provision of group and individual patient activities. Experience with specialized populations such as emotionally dysregulated adults and adolescents is preferred.

    LICENSURE

    Current BLS/CPR certification required within one month of hire. YNHPH Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) initial certification and annual recertification required. Initial certification must be completed within probationary period of employment.

    SPECIAL SKILLS

    Basic computer skills required for data entry, email, smart web paging, mobile heartbeat (MHB) and ability to access the electronic medical record. Ability to work independently. Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment, communicate and effectively deal with complex affective-charged situations and possess group facilitation and crisis management skills.

    PHYSICAL DEMAND

    Able to lift at least 25lbs.; must comply with appropriate OSHA, HIPAA and JCAHO standards relevant to position.
