Inpatient Psychiatrist

Job Summary

The Inpatient Psychiatrist is responsible for providing clinical mental health, inpatient care to patients in one or more Richmond-based inpatient behavioral health units. The Inpatient Psychiatrist will collaborate with outpatient clinicians to take on patients admitted to the hospital or discharge patients to outpatient services.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee 20+ bed inpatient behavioral health units in Richmond, Virginia
  • Optional: act as Psychiatric Medical Director
  • Review patients’ medical history and collect additional information from family members and other mental health professionals as needed
  • Provide a complete and thorough inital evaluation
  • Develop therapy plans and prescribe medications
  • Analyze medical tests and track patients’ progress
  • Advise patients on how to cope with mental diseases and emotional breakdowns
  • Support patients’ loved ones and inform them about the patients’ condition
  • Research medical issues and new medical treatments to update your knowledge on mental healthcare

Qualifications

  • Work experience as a Psychiatrist
  • In-depth knowledge of various psychotherapeutic methods
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain medical terms and conditions to a non-medical audience
  • Strong observation skills to accurately evaluate patients’ functioning and identify symptoms
  • A great bedside manner and the ability to remain calm and empathetic while interacting with patients
  • MD or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
  • Certification from the American Board of Medical Specialists (ABMS)
  • Optional Fellowship in Addiction or Child/Adolescent Psychiatry
  • Residency program in Psychiatry

Other Requirements

  • Minimal travel (15%) may be necessary to be present in the different office locations as necessary for employee support.
