Mount Sinai Morningside and West is seeking an exceptional and talented Psychiatrist to serve as the Unit Chief of an Inpatient Psychiatry Unit.

The Inpatient Psychiatry Unit Chief provides clinical leadership for a multidisciplinary academic treatment team comprising psychiatrists, psychiatry residents, psychologists, nursing staff, social workers, counselors, and occupational therapists. Serving as a role model for professionalism, clinical excellence, and scholarly practice, the Unit Chief fosters a culture of high-quality patient care, exceptional education, and collaborative teamwork. This opportunity is ideal for a collaborative physician leader seeking to expand clinical, operational, and academic leadership experience within an acute inpatient psychiatric setting. Responsibilities include overall clinical leadership of the unit, direct clinical care, training and supervision. The Unit Chief works in close partnership with the Medical Director of Acute Care and Vice Chair to advance clinical, educational, and operational goals across the service.
Responsibilities
Unit Clinical Structure and Coordination
Leads and oversees the interdisciplinary team including team meetings
Provides clinical consultation and supervision to the unit in partnership with the Medical Director of Acute Care Psychiatry
Participates in ensuring the delivery of high quality care on the unit, providing leadership to the staff and patient community
Clinical Care Responsibilities
Provides psychiatric care to adult patients with acute psychiatric disorders
Partners with the Medical Director of Acute Care to ensure consistent psychiatric coverage and continuity of care on the unit
Leads interdisciplinary treatment planning, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team to promote patient-centered care
Maintains timely, accurate, and regulatory-compliant documentation of clinical care activities
Training and Supervision
Provides clinical oversight and supervision for psychiatry residents, fellows, medical students and other trainees on the inpatient psychiatry service fostering excellence in patient care and clinical education
Participates in educational activities including lectures and case conferences as scheduled by the Department of Psychiatry
Collaborates with training program directors in all elements of administrative and clinical responsibilities
Quality, Safety, and Performance Improvement
Participates in Quality Improvement (QI) activities, including performance improvement projects and chart reviews to enhance patient outcomes, safety, and operational effectiveness
Serves as a member of departmental committees focused on quality, patient safety, and patient experience
Promotes a culture of continuous improvement through education and mentorship of interdisciplinary team members
Collaborates with the Departmental Quality and Safety leadership, the Vice Chair, and the Chair in the review, investigation, and follow-up of safety events, incidents, and patient care concerns occurring within the inpatient psychiatry unit.
Monitors and evaluates the use of emergency procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, best practices, and patient-centered care standards
Supports ongoing regulatory compliance and accreditation readiness
Qualifications
Board certified/board eligible Psychiatrist
Possess a NYS license to practice medicine
Excellent clinical knowledge and communication skills
Outstanding teaching skills
Must possess highly collaborative and proactive approach, and demonstrate commitment to high-quality, cost-effective health care
A strong work ethic and desire to participate in and grow a team-oriented, performance-driven department
Qualifications for Assistant Professor or higher academic level
Compensation range from 255K to 320K (not including bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits).

Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialties, historical productivity, historical collections, and hospital/community need. As such, an actual salary may fall closer to one or the other end of the range, and in certain circumstances, may wind up being outside of the listed salary range. The salary range listed is for full-time employment and does not include bonuses / incentive compensation or benefits.
