About the Role

The Inside Sales Representative (ISR) plays a critical role in generating revenue, building strong customer relationships, and ensuring a seamless rental experience from start to finish.

As a proactive sales professional, you will identify customer needs, recommend the right equipment solutions, develop new accounts, and grow existing business through relationship building and suggestive selling. You will serve as a key connection between our customers, Outside Sales, Dispatch, Yard, Service, and Branch Management to ensure our customers receive exceptional service.

This position is approximately 80% office-based and 20% working in the yard, with opportunities to cross-train with Dispatch and gain valuable knowledge of Sunstate's rental operations.

Position Requirements

• Associate or bachelor's degree required
• Degree in Marketing, Sales, Business, Communications, or a related field preferred
• Customer service and/or sales experience preferred
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly build rapport with customers and teammates
• Demonstrated ability to ask thoughtful questions, actively listen, and identify customer needs
• Interest in sales, account management, or customer success with a willingness to learn and grow
• Confident communicator who is comfortable engaging customers by phone and in person
• Strong sales ability, including suggestive selling, upselling, and identifying opportunities to increase revenue
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple customer requests and follow-ups in a fast-paced environment
• Self-starter who takes initiative, follows through on commitments, and seeks feedback to improve
• Adaptable and resilient with the ability to remain positive and professional in a fast-paced environment
• Strong technology aptitude with the ability to learn systems such as Salesforce and RentalMan (AS400)
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Teams
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, depending on location
• Familiarity with DOT guidelines related to equipment transportation is a plus
• Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license and meet minimum age requirements to operate company vehicles

Responsibilities

Sales & Business Development

• Engage customers to understand their equipment needs and recommend appropriate rental solutions
• Use suggestive selling and upselling techniques to increase revenue and expand customer orders
• Proactively identify and open new customer accounts
• Conduct outbound calls and follow up consistently with leads and prospective customers
• Convert customer interest into rental opportunities and document leads and activities in Salesforce
• Participate in local sales campaigns and seasonal equipment promotions
• Communicate qualified leads to Outside Sales Representatives for follow-up

Customer Service

• Respond to customer inquiries with urgency, professionalism, and a positive attitude
• Serve as a primary point of contact for customers by phone and in person
• Assist walk-in customers, vendors, and other visitors in a professional and welcoming manner
• Help customers select the appropriate equipment for their job while considering safety and job-site requirements
• Resolve rental or service concerns promptly and work with internal teams to provide effective solutions
• Maintain strong customer relationships and follow through on customer commitments

Rental & Operational Support

• Process routine rental transactions, including reservations, quotes, contracts, deliveries, pickups, returns, and adjustments
• Accurately enter customer and rental information into RentalMan (AS400)
• Maintain accurate customer and rental information in Salesforce and RentalMan
• Monitor open contracts and follow up on items requiring attention, including billing, damages, disputes, or contract closures
• Coordinate with Dispatch, Yard, Service, and Outside Sales to ensure customer expectations are met
• Communicate special requests, deadlines, equipment needs, and changes across departments
• Communicate with Yard and Shop personnel regarding equipment availability and customer orders
• Assist with equipment loading and unloading when needed and within applicable safety requirements
• Demonstrate awareness of applicable DOT and equipment transportation requirements when supporting delivery and dispatch activities

Teamwork & Accountability

• Balance multiple customer demands while maintaining accuracy, urgency, and quality service
• Maintain ownership of follow-ups, commitments, and customer outcomes
• Stay composed and adaptable during high-volume periods
• Work collaboratively with branch teams to support overall branch goals
• Cross-train with Dispatch and other branch functions as needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions

WORK ENVIRONMENT:The majority of work is performed indoors, with required exposure to outdoor conditions and the branch yard. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, gloves, and other equipment as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Requires extended periods of sitting and standing at a workstation, with regular movement throughout the branch and yard. May require occasional travel for training, branch coverage, or other business needs. Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. regularly, occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., and potentially lift up to 90 lbs. with the assistance of a lifting aid.

HAZARDS:Employees may work around large industrial equipment and may be exposed to outdoor elements and substances including gasoline, diesel fuel, propane, and cleaning solvents. Employees are expected to follow all applicable safety procedures and PPE requirements.
