BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position provides support and functional supervision to programs within the Division of Quality Assurance and Regulation. Representative tasks of the position include but are not limited to:
  • Conducting and tracking training for inspectors.
  • Reviewing daily inspection reports and inspector activities for completion and adequacy.
  • Administer the Maine Quality Trademark program; approve applications and process renewals.
  • Issue Letters of Warning and make Enforcement referrals to the Attorney General's Office as needed.
  • Administer the Minimum Standards for Potato Seed Planting program.
  • Assist with sampling activities within the Dairy and Feed, Seed, Fertilizer programs as needed.

This position is integral to the programs providing food safety inspection and consumer protection so that Maine farmers and food producers can market their goods to local, regional, and national distributors. This position provides functional supervision of programs with critical public health implications and helps ensure only safe products reach the marketplace.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A seven (7) year combination of education, training, and/or experience which includes at least two (2) years' experience in reviewing and analyzing processes, procedures, methods, and/or systems.

LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: (These must be met by all employees prior to attaining permanent status in this class): Federal (USDA)/State Inspector License for the products being inspected. Positions involved with produce inspection activities require a Federal/State Collaborators License and a Federal/State Shipping Point License.

Preference will be given to candidates with education/experience that is directly related to agriculture, particularly regulatory and enforcement activities.
