As an Inspector General GS-1801-13, you will serve as a principal confidential representative and advisor to The Adjutant General (TAG). The primary purpose of this position is to provide TAG with a continuing assessment of operational and administrative effectiveness of the Command. Provides technical guidance and advice to commanders including conducting inspections, investigations, inquiries and providing continuity, coordination and control in the effective execution of s/t/dc national guard units. The IG provides the full range of IG support services to all assigned personnel and their families.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education, or training which has provided the applicant with skill in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately; knowledge of applicable laws, directives, regulations, policies, and procedures; skill in interpersonal communications, empathy, and effective listening; ability to organize thoughts, research materials, and manage case projects; skill in comprehending and interpreting directives and laws; ability to enunciate without impediment of speech that would interfere or prohibit effective communications; ability to write reports and presentation formats; and ability to communicate -orally and in writing- clearly and effectively.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have knowledge of systems and processes that affect the working of the United States Army and Air Force National Guard Commands. Thorough knowledge of civil, military, and administrative aspects of governing laws and regulations. Experience applying practices, theories, techniques, and systemic inspection methodology to the assigned inspection area and ensure such are following Department of the Army and Air Force Inspector General inspection guidelines. Subject matter expertise to properly review the work of assigned inspectors for complete accuracy. Capable of identifying positive and negative issues, analyzing and evaluating inspection areas, determining root causes, and developing viable findings, recommendations, or observations concerning the results of the inspection. Knowledge of all aspects of the elements, investigative techniques, and standards of proof pertaining to fraud, waste and abuse, and abuse of authority by individuals in grades up to GS-15 and Colonel.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIORNMENT: The work is primarily sedentary in nature, although occasional physical effort may be required. Occasional standing for long periods of time, stooping and bending may be encountered during some inspections/inquiries/investigations within depots, manufacturing, storage, or other industrial areas, and may involve moderate risks or discomforts. During these times, protective clothing, gear, and observance of safety precautions are required. Work normally involves use of a personal computer for five to six hours per day. Employee will occasionally be required to travel by airplane and automobile to accomplish the duties of this position for periods of time. The work is performed in an office setting with adequate lighting, ventilation, and environmental control.
ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must successfully graduate from the U.S. Army Inspector General School and maintain certification in accordance with this regulation, must be in enrolled in the training with-in one year of appointment, and practice IG attributes as mandatory requirements for continued employment as an Army IG.
Any serious criminal activity, to include drug use, will result in the immediate removal of an employee from IG duty and loss of access to IGARS and IGNET.
This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) when a top-secret clearance is required. The employee is subject to random drug testing. Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment. Note: The caveat is that the States, Territories, and the District of Columbia cannot drug test until a drug free workplace policy has been established and approved by the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
Employee must have moral attributes and personal traits that demonstrate adherence to Army and Air Force Values, and the Army Civilian Corps Creed.
Employee must have no record of criminal punishment except for minor offenses or derogatory information contained in IG records as screened by the USAIGA and SAF-IG. 12. Applicants referred for consideration will be subject to a database check against the Army Inspector General Action Request (IGARS) and the Air Force Complaints Resolution (ACTS) databases to screen for adverse information, substantiated allegations, and ongoing IG investigations. A social security number (SSN) and current resume is required to conduct the background investigation; applicants must supply their SSN when asked by the hiring authority.

ORGANIZATION
The Army, as one of the three military departments (Army, Navy and Air Force) reporting to the Department of Defense, is composed of two distinct and equally important components: the active component and the reserve components. The reserve components are the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard.
Regardless of component, the Army conducts both operational and institutional missions. The operational Army consists of numbered armies, corps, divisions, brigades, and battalions that conduct full spectrum operations around the world. The institutional Army supports the operational Army. Institutional organizations provide the infrastructure necessary to raise, train, equip, deploy, and ensure the readiness of all Army forces. The training base provides military skills and professional education to every Soldier—as well as members of sister services and allied forces. It also allows the Army to expand rapidly in time of war. The industrial base provides world-class equipment and logistics for the Army. Army installations provide the power-projection platforms required to deploy land forces promptly to support combatant commanders. Once those forces are deployed, the institutional Army provides the logistics needed to support them.
Without the institutional Army, the operational Army cannot function. Without the operational Army, the institutional Army has no purpose.

To deploy, fight and win our nation’s wars by providing ready, prompt and sustained land dominance by Army forces across the full spectrum of conflict as part of the joint force.
The Army mission is vital to the Nation because we are the service capable of defeating enemy ground forces and indefinitely seizing and controlling those things an adversary prizes most – its land, its resources and its population.
