Works-in-Progress Associates (WPA) specializes in Construction and Program Management services, directly supporting Governmental and Institutional agencies on a diverse range of projects. Summary

We are seeking an Inspector to join our dynamic team at Works-in-Progress Associates (WPA). This position is in-person, Monday-Friday, 6pm-2am, working with NYC DDC for a Fire Alarm Upgrade at the Manhattan Family Courthouse located at 60 Lafayette in Manhattan. The rate range is $60-$65 per hour based on experience, plus night differential (10%).

 

Scope

The project’s objective is to replace the old fire alarm system with a new addressable, non-propriety system and integrate with the existing fire protection system in compliance with the current NYC Building and Fire Codes. The existing fire protection system is to be extended into all areas where fire suppression system components are missing. The goal of this project is to improve the critical Fire Alarm and Fire Protection Systems reliability for the entire building and provide the necessary infrastructure for proposed future office space renovations over the next 20 years.

 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in engineering/architecture and/or construction related field from an accredited college or university is required
  • 8 years of full-time experience as a technical specialist in construction and design related field
  • A driver's license valid in New York State.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with all applicable software packages including but not limited to MS Windows; MS Office (including Project, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), and Adobe Acrobat.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide system verification.
  • Provide testing oversight. Witnesses and documents critical system tests.
  • Observe active work to evaluate installation quality, structural supports, and overall structural safety.
  • Ensure all installations comply with the International Building Code (IBC), National Electrical Code (NEC), and localized municipal requirements.
  • Monitors site-specific safety plans, enforcing proper protocols like Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), hot work permitting, and electrical hazard safety.
  • Record daily site activities, noting areas of non-compliance, progress status, and any defects that require.
  • Review submittals, equipment manuals, and Requests for Information (RFIs) to ensure the latest project data is being utilized in the field.

We have been in business for over 30 years and have completed well over 500 projects. We currently have somewhere between 50-60 employees.

Because we are a woman-owned firm we are on contracts with larger Construction Management firms such as LiRo, Hill International, Jacobs, Tectonic, Gilbane, etc. and we help them to meet their WBE goals. We provide Project Managers, Inspectors, Estimators, Office Engineers and so on. Currently we are on about 10-15 different contracts.
