Instructional Aide

Our faculty and staff challenge students to excel in learning and character development through interactive, teacher-led instruction. They are committed to learning, demonstrating, and implementing our unique classical curriculum and instructional methods to maximize educational achievement for all students.

Major Function

The goal of an Instructional Aide is to support designated classroom teachers. This support takes a variety of forms. Examples include helping students stay on task and assisting them with assigned work, facilitating small group work, monitoring students (e.g., at lunch or recess), making photocopies, and other assigned duties.

The Instructional Aide's essential duties and responsibilities are as follows:

• Helping manage a classroom in such a way as to create an atmosphere characterized by order, respect, wonder, and joy.
• Assisting in the cultivation of good habits among the students through explicit instruction and personal example.
• Supporting instruction and assessment under the immediate direction of the classroom teacher.
• Performing clerical tasks as needed so that the teacher(s) can focus more on teaching.
• Complying with all relevant school policies and state and federal laws and regulations.
• Demonstrating an understanding and mastery of central concepts, tools of inquiry, and structure of the discipline(s) taught, effectively transmitting this knowledge to students, and making the subject matter meaningful to students.
• Demonstrating an understanding of and commitment to classical education and the vision, mission, and philosophy of the school, and consistently developing, fostering, and advancing these concepts in students.
• Promoting an independent as well as a collaborative work ethic.
• Establishing and maintaining a safe and secure classroom environment.
• Managing student misconduct promptly and resolving conflict and crises effectively.
• Working effectively with teachers, colleagues, parents, and the community to support students' learning and well-being.
• Performing other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Associate's degree in education or closely related field from an accredited college, university, or technical college.
• Demonstrated competency in education for grades kindergarten through 12.
• Understanding and knowledge of child (including teenager) development.
• Demonstrated judgment to handle crisis situations and to use supervision constructively.
