The instructional aide will work under the direct supervision of a Special Education Teacher to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), manage complex behaviors, and foster an environment of dignity and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Instructional Support
  • Small Group & 1-on-1 Instruction: Deliver modified lessons in subjects like literacy and math, following the teacher's lead.

  • Data Collection: Accurately track student progress on IEP goals and behavioral interventions using daily logs or digital charts.

  • Adaptation: Modify classroom materials (e.g., creating visual schedules or tactile aids) to meet diverse sensory and cognitive needs.

  1. Behavioral & Emotional Support
  • Crisis Intervention: Implement approved de-escalation techniques for students experiencing emotional dysregulation or aggressive outbursts.

  • Positive Reinforcement: Consistently apply behavior intervention plans (BIPs) to encourage prosocial skills and functional communication.

  • Social Coaching: Model and facilitate appropriate social interactions between students.

  1. Physical & Personal Care
  • Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Assist students with personal hygiene, including toileting/diapering, feeding, and dressing, while maintaining the highest level of student privacy.

  • Mobility Assistance: Help with lifting, transferring, or positioning students who use wheelchairs or other adaptive equipment.

  • Safety Supervision: Maintain a vigilant "line of sight" to ensure student safety during transitions, recess, and lunch.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma/GED required; Associate's degree or 60+ college credits preferred (or passing score on the ParaPro Assessment).

  • Experience: Previous experience with individuals with developmental disabilities (Autism, Down Syndrome, etc.) is highly valued.

  • Certifications: Ability to obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
