Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with occasional extended hours as needed by the Department and/or College. Occasional travel to other instructional sites in the service region may be expected to provide instructional support services.

Regular on-campus presence is expected for all KCC employees. Any flexible and/or hybrid work schedules are subject for review, approval, and/or change based on the needs of the College.

Position Summary

Assist faculty with the instructional process by maintaining appropriate inventories and ordering supplies as necessary, provide back-up in the training process by working directly with students, maintain various records, assist with technology needs, and perform minor troubleshooting and repair of equipment. Incumbent should have an electrical or electronics background as primary workload will be dedicated to the electrical and electronics program.

Physical Demands

The job responsibilities are performed in an office area and presentation venues. Travel by car required. The job has intermittent periods during which continuous physical exertion is required, such as independent mobility between work areas, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, climbing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (8 - 45 pounds). Typically requires regular use of one or more physical senses of medium intensity and long duration. Must meet reasonable deadlines, quotas or demands for accuracy, and may be involved in some mildly unpleasant situations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree and/or trade certification or certificate in electrical/electronics from an accredited college/university and at least two (2+) years' related industrial experience OR at least one (1+) year post-secondary education and three or more (3+) years of relevant experience OR four or more (4+) years of relevant experience.If post-secondary education is a factor in meeting minimum qualifications, please ensure unofficial transcripts are uploaded.
  • Ability to work at an intermediate level with Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn other various software programs necessary for the program.
  • Ability to independently travel between instructional sites, as needed.

Preferred but not Required

  • Journeyman status in a relevant/related occupation with broad electrical experience.

Proposed Salary

According to the published support staff salary schedule, Classification Pay Grade 13, 2025-2026 starting hourly wage range, step one $22.28 to step five $26.82. Internal applicants may refer to Article 22, Section 5B.

Job Duties

Essential Function Instruction and Student Support Description

  • Assess and determine instructional approach to meet students' educational needs through active listening and review of students' current work.

  • Communicate and demonstrate effective techniques, processes, and behaviors to provide desired course/subject matter content/technical mastery.

  • This includes helping students through the flexible schedule format of instruction.

  • Guide students, one-on-one or in small groups, in the resources available and learning approaches proven to be successful in completing curriculum requirements.

  • Assist students with duties as assigned by instructor to ensure student learning in the lab.

  • Assist students with test preparation and class assignments.

  • Maintain student records, monitor student success, and maintain confidentiality as prescribed by law or policy.

  • Coordinate and proctor students' tests.

  • Assist and organize student pass slips for faculty to review, determine, and record pass slip information in student grade books.

  • Offer direction on study skills (i.e., time management, test-taking strategies, personal responsibility, etc.) to improve educational performance and identify opportunities for future subject matter proficiency.

Essential Function Inventory, Ordering, and Records Description

  • The responsibilities outlined in this section include support for the HVAC, Industrial Mechanic, Pipefitting, and Millwright labs and related programs.
  • Track and review blanket orders, including budget expenditures, for programs with ordering responsibilities.
  • Maintain all industrial trades database items and update pricing information.
  • Maintain all order documentation, purchase orders, blanket orders, packing slips and invoices in partnership with other instructional assistant(s).
  • Track and receive shipments.
  • Compile annual inventory for the electrical lab.
  • Collect and record all completed program inventories.
  • Maintain equipment lists as needed for Perkins and other grant purchased items.

Essential Function Lab Supplies and Preparation Description

  • The responsibilities outlined in this section include support for the HVAC, Industrial Mechanic, Pipefitting, and Millwright labs and related programs.
  • Monitor lab supplies in across various trades program areas, and order as needed to ensure maintenance of appropriate inventories.
  • Source and control inventories to minimize loss and waste and maximize return on expenditures.
  • Prepare consumable supplies for student lab projects.

Essential Function Related Instructional Materials Description

  • The responsibilities outlined in this section include support for the HVAC, Industrial Mechanic, Pipefitting, and Millwright labs and related programs.
  • Coordinate activities with resource room, registration, and instructional staff.
  • Maintain rapport between faculty, students, and vendors to ensure needs are understood and met.
  • Provide support and scheduling assistance to instructors on departmental assignments and special projects.
  • Work with Resource Room staff to order learning materials and educational aids (e.g., books, CDs, lab supplies, online subscriptions etc.) for assigned programs.

Essential Function Lab Space and Equipment Description

  • The responsibilities outlined in this section include support for the HVAC, Industrial Mechanic, Pipefitting, and Millwright labs and related programs.
  • Clean and assist with organization of assigned labs.
  • Oversee disposal of scrap materials and coordinate disposal of waste materials.
  • Fabricate or design projects needed in the lab.
  • Trouble shoot and repair equipment if within ability to do so.
  • Move supplies over fifty (50) pounds using proper material handling job aids.
