Moreland serves students from preschool through 8th grade across three cities in Santa Clara County. Our teachers educate approximately 3,700 students in four elementary schools, two TK-8 schools, and one middle school. Teachers are provided with regular preparation time, collaboration time, and opportunities for professional development. Job Title: INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT - INTERVENTION
Basic Function:
Under the direction of an assigned Principal, assist a certificated teacher in reinforcing math, reading, writing and literacy instruction to identified individual or small groups of students; assist in the preparation of instructional materials; provide routine clerical support.
Responsible To and Evaluated By: Principal with input from classroom teacher(s)

Education and Experience:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education: Equivalent to high school graduation; meet one of the following criteria: Completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education, or obtained an Associate's Degree (or higher), or pass the District established Instructional Assistant Exam.
Experience: One year experience working with students in an organized setting.
Knowledge Of:
Child guidance principles and practices related to students with reading, writing, fluency and vocabulary issues.
Principles, practices and procedures of a school remedial reading program.
Basic subjects taught in local schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading.
Basic instructional methods and techniques.
Basic phonics, spelling and sentence structure rules.
District organization, operations, regulations, policies and objectives related to position.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct.
Safe practices in classroom and playground activities.
Operation of standard office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software.
Oral and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Basic record-keeping and report preparation techniques.
Mandated reporting requirements.
Ability To:
Assist with instruction and related activities in a classroom or assigned learning environment.
Reinforce instruction to individual or small groups of students as directed by the teacher.
Assist in the preparation of instructional materials.
Perform a variety of clerical duties including typing, filing and duplicating materials.
Explain and interpret assignment directions to students.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Read books to students and assist with reading and writing activities as assigned.
Monitor, observe and report student behavior and progress.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Operate standard office and classroom equipment including a computer and assigned software.
Observe health and safety regulations.
