Job Title: Instructional Assistant, Library

Reports to: Campus Principal

Dept/Campus: Assigned Campus

Pay Grade: Paraprofessional - PG 2

Wage/Hour Status: Non-exempt

Days: 187

Primary Purpose:

Assist in the management of the school library/media center. Assist in providing services and resources that allow students to develop skills in locating, evaluating, synthesizing, and using information to solve problems.

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use personal computer and software to develop spreadsheets, databases, and word documents
  • Ability to communicate effectively

Minimum Experience:

One year of clerical support experience, preferably in public education environment

Preferred experience working with children

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assist Librarian in preparing media materials and resources.
  • Help maintain neat and orderly library/media room.
  • Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of library/media resources.
  • Assist with students throughout school day inside the library media room.
  • Keep librarian informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Interact with students to help promote positive attitudes toward school library/media center.
  • Assist librarian in maintaining appropriate use of media materials and help schedule times and events for the library/media.
  • Assist in the service of information resource for users of library/media center materials
  • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
  • Maintain and file reports, records, and other documents required as directed.
  • Maintain a positive and effective relationship with supervisors.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Participate in staff development training to improve job performance.
  • Participate in meeting and special events as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Report to work in a timely manner according to assigned schedule.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications for the position.
