Description:
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering in the Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track, position at the rank of Instructional Assistant Professor or Instructional Associate Professor, beginning Fall 2027.
The successful candidate will contribute to the department's expanding aerospace and space systems programs through teaching, curriculum development, and student mentoring. Teaching responsibilities could include undergraduate and graduate courses in areas such as Aerospace Design, Dynamics and Control of Space Vehicles, Space Propulsion, Orbital Mechanics, and Aerospace Systems Laboratory. Assignments will reflect the candidate's expertise and departmental needs and may include foundational mechanical engineering courses.
Responsibilities could also include developing hands-on design and laboratory experiences, supervising capstone projects, mentoring multidisciplinary student teams, student advising, assessment of student learning, continuous program improvement, and departmental service. The position offers an opportunity to help shape the department's undergraduate aerospace curriculum and future program initiatives.

The department offers an undergraduate minor in Aerospace Engineering, M.S. degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Space Architecture, and interdisciplinary dual-degree options. Its aerospace education and research activities include the NASA-funded IDEAS² Center and the Sasakawa International Center for Space Architecture (SICSA). Connections to NASA Johnson Space Center and the regional aerospace community provide a distinctive setting for aerospace education, multidisciplinary design, and student engagement.

Appointment Terms
This is a nine-month, full-time, benefits-eligible, promotion-eligible, non-tenure-track faculty appointment. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Reappointment and promotion are governed by applicable University of Houston policies.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the start of the appointment. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to engineering education, evidence of effective teaching or clear potential for teaching excellence, and excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Experience in aerospace design instruction, capstone supervision, laboratory development, or multidisciplinary project-based learning is highly desirable. Relevant aerospace industry or government laboratory experience, as well as experience developing industry-sponsored projects or engaging aerospace professionals in student learning, is also desirable.
Candidates for Instructional Associate Professor should demonstrate a sustained record of teaching effectiveness and educational contributions commensurate with that rank.
