SUMMARY
Facilitates the implementation and evaluation of adaptive technology support materials and technology accessible to students with disabilities. Coordinates the scheduling of sign language interpreters for students with disabilities related to classroom and course content delivery accommodations including student outreach, faculty communications, communications with individual interpreters and/or service providers, assignment of work hours, review of timesheets for payment and complying with related College employment and purchasing policies and procedures. Sign language interpreting services may be provided by individual or service agencies. Responsible for all document conversion for students with disabilities to include converting materials into electronic formats and training students on the use of assistive technology. Maintain the adaptive technology database, coordinate the note-taking accommodation, and provide the college with the most recent information regarding innovations in this field. This position is responsible for providing services to students and faculty at the Eastern, Metropolitan, Western and Westshore campus locations regularly as a part of the established work schedule.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Communicates regularly with SAS advisers to gain information required to properly implement student accommodations related to sign language interpreting services and/or adaptive technology
Coordinates the scheduling of sign language interpreters for students with disabilities related to classroom and course content delivery for all campus locations
Communicates with individual students and faculty related to the assignment of sign language interpreters for each academic term in which a student is enrolled
Communicates with individual sign language interpreters and/or sign language interpreting service providers regarding assignments, expectations, work hours, and payment for services
Reviews timesheets and other documentation required for payment to individuals or vendors providing sign language interpreting services; works in compliance with college policies and procedures for employment and/or purchasing
Trains and supports students with disabilities in the use of appropriate assistive technologies for all campus locations
Oversees and participates in the conversion of all documents (maintaining compliance with Federal copyright laws), correspondence and course materials into accessible formats for students with disabilities College-wide and serves as a liaison with faculty and other campus partners to ensure accessible formats are provided
Provides and maintains access assistive software and adaptive equipment at all campuses and remote facilities, and facilitates video proctoring for students when needed
Provides custom alternate format materials for classroom use by access students
Creates and maintains spreadsheets and databases to record student requests, monitor the College-wide distribution of departmental equipment, deadlines, etc.
Records all communication in detailed memos with students and faculty
Maintains the Student Accessibility Services department's website
Demonstrates civil and inclusive behavior when interacting with staff, faculty, students and visitors to the College
Promotes a flexible, collaborative and inclusive work environment and engages in educational opportunities to increase awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion
Serves as a proctor and assists with the management and administration of exams for students requiring testing accommodations
Assists with the computer needs of the office as it relates to student use for testing and access
Travels to multiple campuses as needed to proctor and administer exams, and to provide training for students and faculty members
Conducts on-going needs assessment and evaluations at all campuses to determine the effectiveness of technology and sign language interpreting services; makes recommendations to supervisor for service or technology enhancements that will support student success initiatives
Meets regularly with individual students and faculty at all campus locations to ensure the student receives the interpreting service and/or equipment outlined in the student's accommodation
Meets with faculty regarding course content/materials, as needed
May attend meetings, workshops and conferences for professional development to ensure that all technology is current
Performs other duties as assigned
