Title: Instructional Designer 1
Location: Vancouver, WA (Hybrid)
Duration: 12-month Contract (with possible extensions up to 5 years)
Pay Range: $31.98 - $34.96 per hour

Develop instructional materials and products and assist in the technology-based redesign of courses. Assist faculty in learning about, becoming proficient in, and applying instructional technology.

Develop instructional material and products, coordinate educational content, and incorporate current technology in specialized fields that provide guidelines to educators and instructors for developing curricula and conducting courses. Facilitate the technology-based redesign of courses. Assist staff in learning about, becoming proficient in and applying instructional design and technology.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Develop instructional materials and products for technology-based courses.
  • Teach instructors to use instructional technology or to integrate technology with teaching.
  • Design instruction that reflects an understanding of the diversity of learners and groups of learners. Adapt instructional content or delivery methods for different levels or types of learners.
  • Conduct needs assessments and strategic learning assessments to develop the basis for curriculum development or to update curricula.
  • Analyze the characteristics of existing and emerging technologies and their use in an instructional environment.
  • Design a curriculum or training program.
  • Design instructional aids for stand-alone or instructor-led classroom or online use.
  • Design learning products, including web-based aids or electronic performance support systems.
  • Develop instruction or training roadmaps for online and blended learning programs.
  • Develop master course documentation or manuals according to applicable accreditation, certification, or other requirements.
  • Interview subject matter experts or conduct other research to develop instructional content.
  • Present and make recommendations regarding course design, technology, and instruction delivery options.
  • Develop training curricula and/or recommend or utilize vendor programs that meet instructional goals and objectives.
  • Recommend improvements to program content and/or instructor presentation methods; may train instructors.
  • Conduct instructional research and analysis on learners and contexts.
  • Apply tested instructional design theories, practice and methods.
  • Provide exercises and activities that enhance the learning process.
  • Develop criteria used to evaluate a learner's performance and develop assessment instruments.
  • Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
  • Assist with the implementation of instructional products and programs.
  • Provide information to management, co-workers, and peers by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Observe, receive, and obtain information from all relevant sources.
  • Analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Identify the educational needs of others, developing formal educational or training programs or classes, and teaching or instructing others.
  • Identify the underlying principles, reasons, or facts of information by breaking down information or data into separate parts.
  • Stay up-to-date technically applying new knowledge to the work to be performed.
Position Requirements:
Education & Corresponding Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in educational design, education training & development, or a related field is desirable.
    • 1 year of experience as an Instructional System Development (ISD) Designer, Training Specialist, or Course Developer required.

Required Technical Skills & Experience
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft software such as PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Word.
  • Proficiency with SharePoint sufficient to create and maintain content, sites, pages, links, Nintex forms, InfoPath forms, and to assist with maintenance (working with IT).
  • Proficiency with Adobe software development products: Flash, Audition, Premiere Pro, Bridge, Standard, In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator.
  • Experience with and working knowledge of the following programs: Toolbook, Articulate Storyline 360, Adobe Captivate, Basic HTML script, SnagIt, Visio Pro, MS InfoPath, and Nintex.

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Exceptional grammar and proofreading skills.
