Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

The Academic Instructional Designer collaborates with faculty to build and improve courses based on evidence-based research on how people learn. This position plays a crucial role in creating and facilitating programs for faculty enhancement, ensuring the adoption of best practices in course design and delivery. Remote work hours are negotiable.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, or related field. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a United States Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
  • Experience working with faculty to enhance course design and instructional practices.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based research on how people learn and effective instructional strategies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and tools to support instructional design.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, or related field.
  • Experience in higher education settings.
  • At least three years of experience directly supporting faculty and their curriculum/course projects.
  • Knowledge of online and hybrid course design.

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Collaborate with faculty members to design, develop, and enhance academic courses to improve student learning outcomes.
  • Apply evidence-based research and best practices in instructional design to create effective and engaging learning experiences.
  • Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in instructional design and higher education.
  • Collaborate with other instructional designers and academic staff to share knowledge and best practices.
