Basic Function

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assists instructors in the planning, organization, preparation, and presentation of classroom and laboratory. Oversees and facilitates the day-to-day laboratory operations, and maintains instructional equipment and technology.

Representative Duties

  1. Assists instructors and staff in planning, organizing, preparing, and presentation of classroom and laboratory materials for area of assignment (such as; ceramics, music technology, arts, physics, engineering, geology, astronomy and geography, etc.). E

  2. Sets up and takes down equipment and materials for various labs. E

  3. Prepares and maintains discipline-specific materials in classrooms and instructional laboratories. E

  4. Takes and maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; updates and maintains stockroom inventory records for a variety of lab materials and supplies. E

  5. Maintains and makes minor repairs to discipline-specific classroom and laboratory equipment. E

  6. Prepares solutions and assembles materials needed for laboratory experiments. E

  7. With guidance and coordination from Information Technology, maintains technology that includes installing/upgrading/decommissioning of computers, softwares and peripherals relevant to the disciplines. E

  8. Collaborates with instructors to; plan, organize, prepare, and conduct lab experiments; assists with curriculum, lab experiments, and program plans, as needed. E

  9. Maintains records of requisitions and purchases on behalf of the assigned programs/departments. E

  10. Coordinates with Facilities or other District or college departments to arrange for and repair broken or malfunctioning equipment or facilities. E

  11. Contacts and meets with vendors to obtain material and/or service quotes. E

  12. Coordinates with Administrative Assistant to the Division Office regarding requisitions, purchase orders (POs), invoices, and accounts payable; coordinates orders and deliveries with warehouse personnel. E

  13. Ensures lab stockroom is up to Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OHSA) regulations where applicable. E

  14. Supervises, trains, and provides work direction to student assistants, student workers, and/or short-term, temporary staff, as assigned. E

  15. Works with Financial Aid Department to identify, interview, and hire student workers from the Federal Work Study and/or District Work Study Programs; trains, schedules, supervises, and provides work direction and daily assignments to student workers; reviews submitted timesheets against hours worked; verifies budget, and submits to appropriate personnel for approval. E

  16. Assists faculty, staff, and students with a variety of requests related to the area of assignment, as directed by the supervisor. E

  17. Proctor labs, lab exams, and examinations, as needed. E

  18. Assists with events related to assigned programs. E

  19. Performs related duties that support the overall objective of the position.

Education and Experience

Associate Degree with major coursework in assigned disciplines/areas or related field; AND Three to four (3-4) years of work experience in the field or discipline related to the assignment;

Or,

Bachelor's Degree in assigned disciplines/areas or related field; AND One to two (1-2) years of work experience in the field or discipline related to the assignment;

Or,

Any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.

Equivalencies Foreign Degrees

Any degree from a country other than the United States, including Canada and Great Britain, must be evaluated by an Evaluation Service prior to the closing date. Certification must be attached with copies of transcripts.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
