VACANCY: ASSIGNMENT TYPE (s):10 Month/Year - 4.5 Hrs/DayResponsibilitiesUnder general supervision, perform a variety of library and instructional media technical and clerical work which promotes student literacy and library skills.Select, receive, catalogue, process books and other materials to support the K-12 curriculum.Assist students and teachers in locating books or in using reference materials, including computer and online resources, for research projects or leisure reading.Provide literature and library skills presentations for K-12 students; assist in the operation of new computer programs, CD ROM, the Internet and other equipment as needed.Catalog, classify and assign subject headings to books and other instructional materials.Maintain computer databases, core literature collection and extended literature collections; card catalogs and necessary files and records.Review, select and/or make recommendations for acquisition of books and other instructional materials to build and improve library and multimedia collections.Generate, using computer or typewriter, a variety of materials such as purchase requisitions, book lists, circulation statistics, catalog cards, work orders, correspondence and reports.Arrange book displays, bulletin boards and exhibits.Receive, log, operate and schedule use of audiovisual equipment and materials.Check out books and other circulating materials and collect monies for fines and lost books.Examine books in need of repair and, where feasible, repair torn or damaged pages.Monitor students' use of the Internet; orient, train and supervise students and parent volunteers in the use of the library and media center.Conduct perpetual and periodic inventories.Maintain order and discipline among students using the Instructional Media Center.ExperienceOne year of general clerical experience including some experience and/or training in library work; or, two years, or sixty units of college level coursework may be substituted for the clerical experience requirement. Experience working with K-12 students and coursework in child development desirable.EducationGraduation from High School or equivalent required. Completion of at least two years of study (48 units) at an institution of higher education, or an Associate's or higher degree.Knowledge ofDewey Decimal Classification System and standard library terminology practices, procedures, and reference sources.Modern office methods, practices and procedures including correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.Ability toUse and apply computer software programs related to the operation of a library.Become familiar with the District's curriculum and related literature, authors and reference material appropriate for K-12 students.Perform difficult and complex technical and clerical library work without immediate supervision.Maintain order and discipline among students.Operate standard office equipment including personal computer, software, printer, typewriter, and audiovisual equipment.Operate spreadsheet and word processing computer software.Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.#J-18808-Ljbffr
