Whitley Elementary INSTRUCTIONAL PARAPROFESSIONAL - PREKINDERGARTEN

The duties include but are not limited to:

Conducts small group or individual learning activities under the direction of the teacher. Provides input toward appraisals of students needs and progress. Sets up and operates equipment such as record players, overhead projectors, listening stations, filmstrip projectors, movies projectors, VCRs, computers, etc. Helps students with general information materials and instruction. Listens to students in recitation, reading, and other curriculum tasks. Assists with gross motor development activities by monitoring, demonstrating, and participating in floor activities such as tumbling, aerobics, running, jumping, hopping, skipping, etc. Assists in supervising field trips and walking tours. Monitors class during meals and monitors personal hygiene activities, hand washing. Assists students with the use of computers. Assists when necessary with emergencies, sick children, wet pants, accidents, etc. that arise in the classroom. Attends Annual 1st Class PreK Conference. Completes a minimum of 20 hours of approved professional development annually.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have completed at least two years of study at an institution of higher education, which may be accomplished by documented successful completion of 48 semester hours at a regionally accredited institution of higher education. OR Have passing scores on all three assessments of the states authorized WorkKeys tests for Paraprofessionals. Must possess a Child Development Associate Credential or at least 9 credit hours of college coursework in the field of Early Childhood Education or Child Development from a regionally accredited institution. Must be at least 19 years of age. Must possess academic competence in language and mathematical skills. Must attach official college transcripts to application prior to application deadline to be considered for the position.

Preferred: An Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.

Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo or have undergone an ABIFBI criminal history background check fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law. Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.
