Ridgefield Public Schools have a vacancy for an Instructional Science Paraeducator at Ridgefield High School. Hourly rate is $21.69 and benefits are offered.

  • Hours: 8 hours per day (plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch)
  • Daily Schedule: 6:30 AM 3:00 PM
  • Work Year: Standard student school year, plus two (2) days prior to the start of the student school year, and four (4) days following the end of the student school year.
  • Reports To: Science Department Chairperson and Assistant Principal.

Essential Functions

  • Lab Preparation & Support: Collaborate with teachers to prepare, set up, and dismantle laboratory materials, solutions, and equipment for classroom activities across chemistry, biology, and physics classes.
  • Chemical Safety & Stewardship: Monitor and manage the safe storage, handling, labeling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials in strict compliance with safety regulations and school protocols.
  • Inventory Control: Maintain constant monitoring of science supplies, reagents, and equipment; conduct regular inventory audits to prevent shortages.
  • Procurement Assistance: Proactively manage the ordering process for laboratory materials, tracking purchase orders, and verifying deliveries upon arrival.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform proactive maintenance, cleaning, calibration, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment (e.g., microscopes, balances, hot plates, probes) to ensure everything is in proper working order.
  • Department Communication: Act as a central, personable, and communicative resource for the science faculty to coordinate weekly lab schedules and resource sharing.
  • Safety Compliance Auditing: Routinely inspect laboratory spaces, safety showers, eyewash stations, and first aid kits to ensure a pristine and secure environment.
  • Documentation: Maintain clear electronic records of chemical inventories, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), equipment manuals, and ordering history.

Preferred Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience working in a laboratory, educational setting, or inventory management environment is highly valued.

Technical Skills & Knowledge

  • Scientific Foundation: Basic, foundational knowledge of concepts in chemistry, biology, and physics (e.g., basic chemical properties, solution preparation/molarity, handling delicate equipment).
  • Safety Protocols: Familiarity with laboratory safety standards and the proper handling/storage of chemical reagents.
  • Digital Tools: Proficiency with spreadsheet software (Google Sheets/Microsoft Excel) for inventory tracking, and comfort utilizing email and digital ordering systems.
