E-17 BOE: TITLE: BASIC SKILLS TEACHER QUALIFICATIONS: Meet necessary certification requirements of The State of New Jersey REPORTS TO: Building principal or other appropriately certified administrator as designated by the superintendent JOB GOAL: The Basic Skills Teacher will conduct an instructional program for those students encountering difficulty mastering the basic skills. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: In order to fulfill his/her professional responsibilities the BASIC SKILLS TEACHER shall: a. Teach the basic skills (reading and/or mathematics) in accordance with grade level assignment and the Annual Basic Skills Improvement Program. b. Prepare daily lesson plans. c. Administer new student placement tests as necessary. d. Be responsible for student growth in the basic skills. e. Establish positive teacher-student relations. f. Establish a social-emotional climate that is conducive to learning. g. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. h. Plan programs meeting the varying needs and abilities of the students. I. Employ techniques of instruction that achieve the stated objectives. j. Maintain open communication with parents. k. Work cooperatively with other members of the staff. l. Evaluate students' academic growth, keep mandated records, and prepare reports of progress. m. Instruct, advise, coach, supervise and/or direct extra-curricular activities, including but not limited to, such activities as interscholastic and intramural sports, music and theatrical programs, publications, student government, and student clubs.
