    POSITION DESCRIPTION

    The selected candidate will be responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. This person will also be responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with GPPSS policies, goals and objectives.

    PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS

    • Valid Michigan Secondary Level Teaching Certificate
    • BA endorsement and highly qualified status required
    • Significant experience and/or coursework in related fields
    • Related academic endorsements preferred include Reading Specialist (BR), or Reading (BT) or Language Arts (BX)

    POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Ability to implement the Grosse Pointe Public School System English Language Arts curriculum using evidence-based instructional practices aligned with the Michigan Academic Standards.
    • Develops and delivers standards-aligned instruction in reading, writing, speaking, listening, language, and literacy.
    • Selects, designs, and adapts instructional materials, texts, and learning experiences to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, and cultural needs of all students, including those with varying learning styles and special needs.
    • Deliver Targeted Literacy Intervention: Plan and facilitate explicit reading instruction for 6th-grade students performing significantly below grade level, adapting curriculum to replace core ELA Reading and/or Writing as needed.
    • Integrates culturally diverse authors, texts, perspectives, and experiences into instruction to promote critical thinking, empathy, and global awareness.
    • Creates a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning, collaboration, and respectful discourse.
    • Facilitates literature discussions, writing instruction, and other learning experiences that develop students' critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills.
    • Uses formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress, provide timely feedback, and adjust instruction to improve student achievement.
    • Assists in evaluating curricular needs and contributes to the continuous improvement of curriculum, instructional practices, and student learning.
    • Maintains accurate and efficient records related to student attendance, achievement, and other required documentation.
    • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and other educational professionals to support student success.
    • Collaborates with colleagues and support staff to strengthen instruction, implement interventions, and foster a positive learning environment.
    • Establishes and maintains positive, respectful, and productive relationships with students, families, colleagues, and the school community.
    • Models professionalism, ethical conduct, and a commitment to continuous professional learning.
    • Assumes responsibility for meeting course, building, and district student achievement goals and demonstrates evidence of student growth.
    • Meets professional responsibilities through effective organization, timely completion of assigned duties, adherence to deadlines, and active participation in school and district initiatives.
    • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

    • Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom.
    • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time.
    • Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties.
    • Occasional bending, kneeling, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs.
    • Prolonged periods sitting and working on the computer to complete necessary paperwork.

    Compensation:

    Salary is based on the GPEA CBA, which MAY or MAY NOT recognize previous professional teaching experience. GPEA Members are also eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including health/dental/vision/life and long-term disability insurance. Membership in the Michigan Public Schools Employee Retirement System www.michigan.gov/ors.
