Job Description Summary

Reporting to the Director of the Faculty Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, the Instructional Technologist is responsible for supporting faculty, staff, and students in the effective use of instructional technologies that enhance teaching, learning, and student success. Working collaboratively with the Faculty Center team, the Instructional Technologist provides technology consultation, training, troubleshooting, and instructional support for learning technologies including the Learning Management System (LMS), digital learning tools, multimedia resources, and emerging educational technologies.

This position promotes excellence in teaching and learning by helping instructors integrate technology in ways that support learner engagement, accessibility, course quality, and the University's Lasallian mission. The Instructional Technologist serves as both a technology specialist and a faculty partner, assisting with course development, faculty professional development, and technical support initiatives.

Responsibilities

Responsible to model the University's Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's essential purposes as a Catholic and Lasallian institution of higher education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Faculty Support and Consultation

  • Provide individualized consultations to faculty regarding the effective use of instructional technologies.
  • Assist instructors with integrating educational technology tools into face-to-face, hybrid, online, and HyFlex courses.
  • Recommend technology solutions that support pedagogical goals and student learning outcomes. · Collaborate with faculty on course enhancement and technology integration projects.

Learning Management System Support

  • Provide support for Blackboard Ultra and related instructional technologies.
  • Assist faculty with course setup, content organization, assessments, gradebook management, communication tools, and analytics.
  • Troubleshoot LMS-related issues and coordinate resolutions with internal and external support teams.
  • Test new LMS features and communicate updates, enhancements, and best practices to faculty and staff.

Training and Professional Development

  • Design and facilitate workshops, webinars, and training sessions on educational technologies and teaching best practices.
  • Develop training materials, tutorials, knowledge-base articles, guides, and documentation.
  • Support faculty development initiatives related to online teaching, course design, accessibility, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
  • Promote the adoption of innovative teaching practices through technology-enhanced learning.

Accessibility and Inclusive Learning

  • Promote accessible course design practices and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles.
  • Assist faculty in creating accessible course materials and multimedia content.
  • Support institutional efforts related to digital accessibility compliance and inclusive teaching practices.

Help Desk and Technical Support

  • Respond to faculty support requests related to instructional technologies.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical issues or escalate concerns as appropriate.

Course Development and Quality Improvement

  • Collaborate with instructional designers on course development and redesign projects.
  • Support Quality Matters and university course quality standards.
  • Assist faculty in implementing instructional technologies that improve learner engagement, retention, and success.
  • Provide recommendations for effective online and blended learning practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Education, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience supporting instructional technologies in higher education, K-12 education, corporate training, or a related environment.
  • Experience supporting a Learning Management System (Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, D2L, or equivalent).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of educational technology tools and instructional best practices.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and project management abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with individuals from diverse academic disciplines and backgrounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, Higher Education, or a related field.
  • Experience with Blackboard Ultra.
  • Experience providing faculty development and training.
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards, UDL principles, and Quality Matters.
  • Experience with multimedia production tools, video technologies, and AI-enhanced learning tools. · Knowledge of Microsoft 365, collaboration tools, and learning analytics.
