Pay Range: USD $67,090.00 - USD $120,760.00 /Yr. Overview:

This is an onsite position and requires the employee to work on campus.

 

The College of Veterinary Medicine is hiring for a Instructional Technology Software Engineer. This role serves as a technical lead for the design, development, and maintenance of software applications that support veterinary student instruction.  Works with faculty, instructional staff, and clinical leadership to define needs, scope projects, and deliver production applications.  Monitors, defines, creates, and modifies procedures to solve complex instructional application problems considering resource capacity, operational requirements, and integration with existing clinical and academic systems.  Responsible for program design, coding, testing, debugging, deployment, and documentation across the full software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities:
  • HIS Reviews, modifies, and writes complex program code and comprehensive application systems for the implementation of instructional and academic business requirements. Provides technical oversight and coordination for coding in accordance with best practices for associated programming languages, applications, and systems.
  • Provides technical oversight for the application of and compliance with technical standards such as code reviews, unit testing, and security reviews.
  • Prepares and reviews detailed specifications from which programs will be written in order to ensure compliance with instructional and technical requirements.
  • Plans, leads, and implements the program design, coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and support of application software used in veterinary instruction, including integrations with clinical systems used for instruction and university enterprise platforms.
  • Coordinates and participates in the evaluation of software products and programming languages. Makes recommendations based on the evaluation of software products and programming languages for their applicability to instructional systems or projects.
  • Conducts quality assurance reviews to ensure that programs, applications, and systems meet instructional and technical requirements. Provides work guidance to other staff members.
  • Serves as technical lead on assigned instructional application projects, coordinating with business analysts, instructional staff, faculty subject matter experts, and end users to translate academic and clinical requirements into delivered software.
  • Serves as the primary technical point of contact for assigned instructional applications, supporting end-user inquiries, coordinating with vendors and central university IT groups, and maintaining technical and operational documentation including architecture diagrams, deployment procedures, integration specifications, and end-user reference materials.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree-no specific discipline. 
  • 6 years of relevant IT experience to include increasingly complex business programming in a business or university setting.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field preferred.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Advanced proficiency in programming languages used for web and database application development, such as SQL and a modern object-oriented or web development language.
  • Experience with modern application development environments and tools, including cloud platforms, source control systems, integrated development environments, and continuous integration tooling, with specific technologies dependent on project requirements.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle processes, including iterative and agile methodologies, and relational database design.
  • Knowledge of application programming interface (API) design and system integration techniques.
  • Knowledge of application security principles, including secure coding practices and authentication and authorization frameworks.
  • Ability to explain technical information to a non-technical audience.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong technical aptitude and computer skills.
