Job Summary
Instructor, Animation and Media Production Arts
Full-Time | 9-month
Western Piedmont Community College seeks a full-time Animation and Media Production Arts Instructor to develop and teach courses that range from motion graphics and animation, video and audio production, visual effects and compositing and broadcasting publishing platforms for expressive and commercial media content creation. The instructor will implement technical solutions to support the creation of high-quality creative content for both current and emerging visual media production platforms and viewer experiences that will inform students in Western Piedmont Community College's Animation and Media Arts, Audio and Video Production Technology, and Simulation and Game Development programs.
Duties Relevant to Academic Discipline
- Provide a strong base for pre-production planning and implementation of narrative and technical solutions and skills related to motion graphics creation and animation, audio and video capture and editing and post-production techniques.
- Provide current and emerging media production skills sets in motion graphic design and audio/video production including integration if AI tools for generative content creation workflows.
- Assist Program Coordinator in maintaining digital media related lab facilities on campus and related equipment.
- Stays current in the subject area through continued professional development and active involvement in professional organizations and activities.
Other Faculty Duties
- Provide a range of course instruction including Hy-flex, Hybrid and Online for synchronous, asynchronous, and face-to-face seated class instruction.
- Provide curriculum development for Continuing Education (CE) courses in the form of short-term completion certificates, youth camp offerings and media production skills training for non-degree seeking students.
- Deliver instruction using a variety of techniques and methods; evaluate and develop curriculum and instructional materials; assess student academic progress; and develop appropriate course schedules.
- Effectively deliver course instruction to meet individual learning styles and paces and adapt teaching methods to accommodate students with diverse experiences and backgrounds.
- Engage in annual professional development related to teaching and learning, leadership and culture, and college operations.
- Advise, mentor, and support students enrolled the Animation and Media Arts, Audio and Video Production Technology, and Simulation and Game Development programs.
General Duties
- Serve on campus committees and teams.
- Works effectively with faculty and staff, especially those involved in related programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
A faculty member teaching BPT, DEA, DME, FVP, and SGD prefix courses must meet one of the following minimum requirements:
A bachelor's degree in Digital Effects and Animation, Digital Media, New Media, Game Design, Mass Communication, or a related field (e.g., Film, Interactive Design, 3D Visualization)
OR
An associate degree in Audio and Video Production Technology, Digital Effects and Animation Technology, Film and Video Production Technology, Simulation and Game Design, Broadcasting & Production Technology, or a related field (e.g., New Media) along with verifiable work experience in the field
Preferred Qualifications

- MFA in Computer Arts and Animation, Motion Graphic Design, Media Production Arts, New Media or related field
- At least two years of teaching experience at the college level
- At least three years of professional experience related media production industry
- Fluency in visual media production pipelines from pre-production, studio and field production techniques, graphics creation for VFX compositing and postproduction and firm grasp of emerging technologies for immersive viewing experiences including virtual production
- Proficiency in content creation platforms for deployment to provide critical job skills for traditional media production industries, remote employment, contractual production services and social media platform monetization strategies
- Proficiency in Adobe CC software tools for motion graphics, video editing and postproduction and creative 3D tools such as Blender and Maya
- Proficiency and experience in live broadcast streaming techniques
- Proficiency and experience in Virtual Production hardware and software for use in production studio
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Understanding of and commitment to the College's mission and philosophy
