Job Description

The Full-Time Instructor is responsible for providing effective instruction, fostering student success, and contributing to the academic and community mission of the college. Instructors engage in curriculum development, assessment, advising, and professional development while maintaining compliance with institutional and accreditation standards. Additionally, Instructors are expected to participate in college events, serve on committees, and support continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Instruction & Curriculum Development:

  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with the NCCCS Combined Course Library course descriptions.

  • Develop and revise curriculum to ensure alignment with industry standards and accreditation requirements.

  • Provide students with a course syllabus that includes measurable learning objectives and expected outcomes.

  • Incorporate technology and innovative teaching methodologies to enhance student learning.

  • Maintain a classroom environment (online and/or face-to-face) conducive to learning and report any issues in a timely manner.

  • Utilize the LMS as appropriate for the course modality.

  • Participate in on-going curriculum review and formal evaluation, implementing necessary improvements.

  • Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance and grade reporting.

  • Submit reports and records according to established schedules.

  • Safeguard and maintain instructional and office equipment, reporting any irregularities.

  • Assist in textbook selection, resource procurement, and inventory management.

  • Use college systems such as Self Service for academic administration.

  • Student Support & Advising:

  • Provide academic advising, mentoring, and career guidance to students.

  • Assist students in developing educational plans and verifying readiness for graduation.

  • Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback and support.

  • Schedule and maintain regular student contact hours and make office hours available to students.

  • Contact students who are absent from class to encourage engagement and retention.

  • Assessment & Continuous Improvement:

  • Participate in course and program assessment to evaluate learning outcomes and effectiveness.

  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance instructional quality and student success.

  • Ensure compliance with accreditation, state, and institutional policies.

  • Professional Development & Collegial Engagement:

  • Participate in professional development opportunities, including conferences, workshops, and training.

  • Stay current with developments in the discipline and instructional best practices.

  • Attend all scheduled faculty meetings unless a class conflict occurs.

  • Engage in departmental meetings, committees, and institutional initiatives.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to support institutional goals and community partnerships.

  • Service & Community Engagement:

  • Support college-wide initiatives, student activities, and recruitment efforts.

  • Engage in outreach efforts that connect students with local industries and employers.

  • Serve on institutional committees and participate in program advisory boards.

  • Contribute to partnerships with businesses, advisory boards, and community organizations.

  • Attend annual graduation exercises and participate in college events and activities.

  • Additional Responsibilities:

  • Set-up and take-down of labs for each class.

  • Proper disposal of hazardous waste.

  • Other duties as necessary for teaching biology

  • Physical Demands:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Biology or a master's degree with 18 graduate hours in Biology) from a regionally accredited institution.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant teaching experience in a community college setting, preferred.
