    Other Conditions: Full time, 9-month, general funds, to begin approximately Spring 2027, pending position clearance, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. Renewal of appointment contingent on satisfactory performance and availability of funds. Position may be converted from 9 to 11 months or 11 to 9 months based on operational needs.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Under supervision of the Science and Mathematics Division Chair, teach a variety of introductory psychology and human development courses, which primarily includes survey of psychology, developmental psychology, and human development. Other courses may include those that support vocational and allied health programs (such as Nursing and Early Childhood Education), transfer programs within the UH System, as well as student and community needs.
    • Performs regular course assessments and participates in ongoing discipline-, program-, and institutional-level assessment. Implements adjustments to course content and professional practice to improve student learning in classes taught.
    • Revises or creates new curricula and student learning outcomes when necessary, and regularly prepares and revises course syllabi.
    • Works collaboratively with other Kauai Community College faculty and staff.
    • Serves as a faculty mentor to students.
    • Identifies students learning needs, including needs of underprepared students, and implements effective teaching strategies to address them.
    • Independently and/or collaboratively plans, organizes, and carries out instructional and non-instructional assignments.
    • Develops and maintains a personal professional development program.
    • Maintains appropriate office hours for each course taught.
    • Day, evening, weekend, non-credit, Early College, and/or distance education classes may be assigned as part of regular workload. May be assigned operational or off-site instructional duties as part of regular workload. Changes to modality and approaches for teaching assignments may be needed to address emerging needs.
    • Participates in discipline-, division-, campus-, and system-wide committees, as well as relevant partnership initiatives between Kauai Community College/University of Hawaii and the Hawaii Department of Education.
    • Demonstrates commitment to Kauai Community Colleges mission, principles, and philosophy.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    A. Master's degree in Human Development (Family Resources); OR,

    B. Masters degree in Family & Consumer Sciences (Family Resources); OR,

    C. Masters degree in Human Development; OR,

    D. Masters degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, Sociology, Nursing or Public Health with 12 credits of advanced coursework in Human Development (life span)

    All degrees must be earned from an accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment. If qualified applicants are not available, others will be considered on an Acting Instructor basis.

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Established record of effective teaching to college students through classroom and/or distance education modalities.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop new courses and/or programs.
    • Experience applying innovative teaching techniques in courses.
    • Demonstrated ability to conduct active research through peer-reviewed publications, grant proposals, and/or other scholarly products in public health writing, public health pedagogy, and/or health equity.
    • Familiarity with public health applied learning experiences.
    • Demonstrated interest or experience working in multicultural, multiethnic, and various settings/populations.
