Other Conditions: Contingent on course offerings and student demand, to begin approximately in Spring 2027, pending position clearance, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. The position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under general supervision:
Design, deliver, and assess Psychology courses that support the Psychology concentration, transfer pathways, and student learning outcomes.
Develop, revise, and assess curriculum, course materials, teaching strategies, and assessment methods to improve student learning, support the needs of a diverse student population, and promote critical thinking and written communication, as appropriate.
Teach courses in a variety of instructional modalities, including face-to-face, online, hybrid, and other emerging instructional formats, as needed.
Provide academic support to students through regular communication, office hours, academic advising, and other appropriate means.
Contribute to the ongoing development and innovation of the Psychology concentration, including but not limited to undergraduate research and experiential learning opportunities, curriculum development, student engagement initiatives, community partnerships, and other high-impact educational practices that support student success.
Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators to support departmental, divisional, college, and University of Hawaii System initiatives, including assessment, accreditation, and strategic planning activities.
Collect, analyze, and report data related to student learning, program effectiveness, and institutional goals.
Engage in professional development, scholarly and professional activities, and public service related to ones discipline, teaching responsibilities, and professional expertise.
Uphold and contribute to Kapiolani Community Colleges values, mission, and vision as a model Indigenous-serving institution.
Regular workload may include evening, weekend, continuing education, distance education, learning community, and off-campus instructional assignments.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Note: Minimum qualifications must be met by the effective date of appointment.
Desirable Qualifications
Doctorate degree in Psychology.
Demonstrated effectiveness in post-secondary teaching.
At least one (1) year of experience teaching Psychology courses beyond Introduction to Psychology, including Research Methods, Statistics, Biopsychology, Developmental Psychology, Social Psychology, Personality, Clinical Psychology, or related areas.
At least one (1) year of experience developing and teaching courses in online, hybrid, and/or other instructional modalities.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, administrators, students, and community partners in support of departmental and institutional goals.
Demonstrated written communication skills, as substantiated by application materials and on-site writing performance.
At least one (1) year of experience using educational technologies to support student learning and engagement.
Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and assess programs, projects, or initiatives that support student learning, program effectiveness, and institutional goals.
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and remaining current with developments in Psychology, teaching, and learning.
At least one (1) year of experience supporting undergraduate research, experiential learning, transfer pathways, or other high-impact educational practices.
