Description

Waukesha County Technical College is seeking an experienced and dedicated full-time CDL-A Truck Driving Instructor to inspire, train, and prepare students for successful careers in commercial transportation. Through leadership by example, our new team member will provide instruction, administer authentic assessments, and foster an active learning environment that is focused on student foundational competence, success, retention, and completion.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities (include, but not limited to)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain course curriculum. Align curriculum to departmental, state, and/or other applicable standards and outcomes.
  • Plan, deliver and facilitate student learning, including providing ongoing quality feedback to students.
  • Assess student attainment of learning outcomes and critical life skills (both formative and summative), at the course, program, and college level.
  • Collect, report, analyze, and use data to support continuous improvement at the course, program and college level.
  • Use technology to facilitate student learning, college processes, and personal productivity.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate as a productive member of a team.
  • Maintain college learning resources and equipment.
  • Participate in recruitment and retention activities.
  • Pursue ongoing professional development, maintain occupational competency, and ensure knowledge of current laws and regulations related to the profession(s) in which instruction is provided.

Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of programmatic discipline, curriculum development, effective teaching/learning principles, and evaluation
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills - oral, written, active listening, and non-verbal cues
  • Strong customer service skills which includes working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to manage time, organize work and meet deadlines
  • Ability to effectively integrate technology into instructional delivery and assessment
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal (staff, management, personnel) and external contacts (employers, clients, and vendors)
  • Ability to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to work and/or the improvement of processes and/or systems
  • Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and/or with minimal supervision
  • Ability to prioritize work and adapt to changing priorities
  • Intermediate level of proficiency with computer software applications such as word processing, database, spreadsheet, and presentation programs. Knowledge of and familiarity with video-conferencing and technologies associated with adult-centric teaching and learning, as well as within specific programmatic disciplines, which may include web technologies, operating systems, online program tracking platforms, social media platforms, mobile technology tools, and/or AV/multimedia applications and equipment.
  • Ability to obtain and keep a FedMed (Department of Transportation Physical Evaluation).
  • Ability to pass a DOT Physical and Drug Screen as well as maintain a Commercial Driver License.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Seven (7) years or 14,000 hours of current industry experience driving a Tractor Trailer.
  • Must possess a current Commercial Driver's License with the appropriate endorsements at a level equal to or greater than the desired Class of license being instructed. (Candidates must possess a CDL with all manual transmission limitations removed and be qualified to operate and instruct using manual transmission commercial vehicles.)
  • Attain and maintain a WTCS teaching certificate.

Supplemental Information

This position supports the Graphics, Construction and Transportation department and is available to start on October 12th, 2026.

This position requires Wisconsin residence.

Hours

This is a full-time instructor position on a flexible year-round calendar. Teaching assignments include variable hours, including days, evenings, and/or weekends.

Interviews

Finalists will be invited to interview and do a teaching demo on Friday, September 11th, 2026. Candidates will be notified via email if selected for interviews.

If selected as a finalist, you will be subject to a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check as part of the pre-employment process.
