Job Summary

The Cybersecurity and Computer Information Technology Instructor will design, develop, and deliver an engaging curriculum for cybersecurity and computer information technology courses, fostering a dynamic learning environment and ensuring alignment with industry standards and best practices in cybersecurity education. This role is vital to supporting student success by providing effective instruction and academic advising, and by creating opportunities for students to engage in research and practical applications of technology skills.

Responsible for demonstrating LSSC's core values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members.

This position will enhance student success at Lake-Sumter State College by providing high-quality instruction, fostering a student-centered, supportive learning environment, and preparing students for in-demand careers through engaging curricula and practical learning opportunities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan and carry out instructional duties, which maximize student learning.
  • Supervise students through program procedures and academic and course-related concerns.
  • Teach assigned courses per course descriptions.
  • Work at least 35 hours per week each Fall and Spring, including 15 classroom hours, 10 office or student contact hours, and 10 hours of service to the college.
  • Assist with registration and recruitment when requested.
  • Furnish each student with a course syllabus listing performance objectives, course expectations, grading procedures, withdrawal procedures, class attendance policies, and office phone and e-mail access.
  • Function as a member of faculty committees in developing the colleges instructional program and educational philosophy.
  • Attend all scheduled or called meetings by the President or Vice President, Deans, and Program Directors unless excused by the administrator in charge.
  • Teaches all classes for the entire period as scheduled.
  • Evaluate student progress and achievement with clear methods presented in the course syllabus.
  • Utilize evaluation results for planning, instruction, counseling, and program modification.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Submit grade reports and other required data on or before deadline dates.
  • Resolve discipline problems within the sphere of responsibility.
  • Assist and counsel students as needed, including during office and campus hours.
  • Utilize materials and equipment necessary to accomplish designated tasks.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of current instructional developments.
  • Regularly examines assigned course content and recommends changes to the curriculum committee as needed.
  • Comply with appropriate administrative rules/regulations and Board Policy.
  • Participate in an annual evaluation process as the Vice President of Academic Affairs specified.
  • Participate in Commencement Activities.
  • Maintain continuity of communication with students, community, faculty, staff, and supervisors through timely replies to meetings, phone calls, mail, and email requests.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Experience in online course development and delivery is preferred.
  • Work experience in the subject matter area is required.
  • Ability to demonstrate proficiency in working with various virtual meeting platforms.
  • Expertise in cybersecurity and computer information technology.

Minimum Qualifications & Education

  • Required:

  • Master's Degree in Cybersecurity, or another related field; or Master's degree plus 18 graduate semester hours in Cybersecurity or related field.

  • Ability to demonstrate competence using various virtual meeting platforms.

  • Preferred:

  • Doctorate in Cybersecurity, or another related field; or Doctorate plus 18 graduate semester hours in teaching discipline.
