General Function
Central Piedmont Community College is a comprehensive institution that places primary emphasis onexcellence in classroom instruction. Continuing Education (CE) Esthetics Instructors are expected todemonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at thecollege while ensuring compliance with the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners.
Duties and Responsibilities
I. Mastery of Subject Matter
Qualified candidates must demonstrate proficiency in esthetics theory and practical application as defined by the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners, including but not limited to:
- Advanced facial treatments and skincare protocols
- Skin analysis and consultation techniques• Infection control, sanitation, and safety procedures in accordance with NC Board laws and rules
- Disinfection standards and blood exposure procedures
- Chemical exfoliation (as permitted by NC law and CE scope)
- Hair removal techniques (waxing, tweezing, and related services within scope)
- Makeup application techniques
- Advanced treatment modalities consistent with state regulations
- Professional ethics, client relations, and spa/salon best practices
- North Carolina cosmetic art laws, rules, and regulations applicable to esthetics licensee
Additional expectations include:
- Developing and implementing curriculum aligned with NC Board requirements for license renewal
- Demonstrating proper use of esthetics equipment, tools, and products
- Teaching theory related to anatomy, physiology, histology of the skin, and product chemistry
- Ensuring course content meets continuing education hour requirements established by the NC Board
- Organizing competency-based practical activities• Providing constructive feedback to students
- Maintaining current knowledge of skincare trends, technologies, and regulatory updates
II. Teaching Performance
- Teach assigned continuing education courses in accordance with approved course outlines and NC Board CE guidelines
- Plan and organize instruction to maximize documented participant learning
- Employ effective teaching strategies appropriate for adult learners and licensed professionals
- Supervise and evaluate participants in classroom and practical lab settings when applicable
- Modify instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs
- Utilize instructional technology and digital platforms when appropriate
- Encourage professional growth, ethical practice, and critical thinking
- Contribute to the development and revision of CE instructional materials
- Develop, update, and distribute course syllabi and required CE documentation in accordance with college and Board policies
III. Evaluation of Participant Learning
- Establish measurable learning outcomes aligned with NC Board licensing objectives
- Develop fair and consistent methods to assess participant comprehension and engagement
- Document attendance and instructional hours in compliance with NC Board licensing reporting requirements
- Maintain accurate records for audit and compliance review
- Submit required completion documentation within established deadlines
- Demonstrate professionalism and responsiveness to participant needs while maintaining regulatory standards
IV. Support of College Policies and Procedures
- Teach assigned CE classes in a multi-campus, lab, clinical, or online environment as needed
- Ensure strict compliance with NC Board sanitation and safety regulations
- Maintain confidentiality of participant records in accordance with institutional policy
- Record attendance and hours accurately
- Maintain classroom and lab environments consistent with inspection standards
- Adhere to all Corporate and Continuing Education operational procedures
V. Participation in College, Division, and Program
- Respond in a timely manner to information requests from college, division, and program administrators
- Participate in professional development and CE provider compliance updates
- Demonstrate professionalism and effective communication with participants, colleagues, staff, and administrators
- Assist with CE program development, marketing, recruitment, and retention initiatives
VI. Contribution to Growth and Enhancement of College Mission and Programs
- Maintain familiarity with the college's mission, goals, and strategic initiatives
- Participate in program planning and continuous improvement efforts
- Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current in esthetics practice and regulation
- Support outreach efforts to strengthen industry partnerships
- Perform professional responsibilities in alignment with college, division, and program objectives
Minimum Requirements and Preferred Qualifications
- Current North Carolina Esthetician License or Cosmetologist license in good standing
- Current North Carolina Cosmetic Art Esthetician Teacher's License or Cosmetology Teacher'sLicense Instructor License
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of two (2) years of licensed esthetics experience in a professional setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching in a community college or post-secondary cosmetic arts program
- Two (2) or more years of professional esthetics experience
- Strong instructional and presentation skills for adult learners
