Job Summary

The Government Instructor has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, classroom instruction and lab instruction and completing all duties associated with full-time teaching. Assigned classes may occur during the day, evening, and/or online with varying teaching locations including on-campus, dual enrollment, and Early College High School. This position reports to LSCPA's General Education and Developmental Studies Department.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Provide quality instruction
  • Participate in college tasks, which includes but is not limited to, advising, recruiting, and tutoring
  • Serve on departmental and college committees, perform community services, and participate in continuing educational and/or professional development opportunities
  • Exhibit commitment and involvement in the development, implementation, and assessment of curriculum based on program, department and college goals and objectives
  • Attend faculty meetings
  • Maintain current knowledge, expertise, and safety in the subject areas of teaching responsibility along with broader higher education matters and trends
  • Respond to students, faculty and staff in a timely and professional manner
  • Occasional travel to various campus and/or conference, seminar locations
  • Comply with campus policies and procedures
  • Other related duties, as assigned

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in the qualifying field, or a master's degree with eighteen (18) semester credit hours in the subject matter
  • Work independently in the classroom
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Possess time management and communication skills
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Political Science
  • Teaching experience in higher education and/or Early College High School
  • Experience with Blackboard or other computerized teaching systems
  • Teaching experience at a two-year college

Supplemental Information

Work Hours:

Full time hours, Monday - Friday, with possibility of some evenings, depending upon class schedule
