Job Summary

Faculty will be responsible for instruction and skill development taught in accordance with established policies and guidelines. Provide a positive and encouraging atmosphere for individuals in achieving their goal of successfully completing their program of study. In addition, the instructor will contribute to the effectiveness and quality of the program and provide constructive, supportive feedback to improve the quality of education and customer service.

This position will carry a 9-month faculty agreement and a required start date of 08/10/2026.

Typical Job Functions

  • Provide excellent instruction and faculty support to students in the Heavy Duty Diesel Technology program
  • Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of students coming from different backgrounds
  • Maintain current and appropriate credentials in field(s) of expertise
  • Attends in-service meetings each semester
  • Attends graduation ceremonies
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of ten years of recent full-time industry related experience
  • OR bachelor's degree AND four years of full-time industry related experience
  • OR an associate's degree AND six years of full-time related experience
  • ASE Master Med/Heavy-Duty Truck certification or ability to obtain ASE Master Certification within the first two years of employment.
  • Incumbent must reside in the State of Idaho (Currently CEI does not sponsor H-1B Visas)

Additional Desired Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification in the area in which the applicant is qualified to teach.
  • Knowledge and practical experience with current electronic control systems related to the diesel and heavy-duty industry.
  • Factory training and certifications.
  • Teaching/training experience.
  • Bilingual (Spanish)

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an instructor to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the instructor is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, climb, or balance, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.

The instructor must frequently lift and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include adequate close vision and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Most work will be conducted in the classroom and working lab locations, but may require some time outside in differing weather conditions. Faculty must stand for extended periods of time, demonstrate working on heavy diesel equipment in a shop environment, and sit while performing essential functions at a computer. Conditions are typical for a classroom environment, and the lab work is conducted in a protected environment with a similar temperature to a shop environment.

On-site work is essential, and regular, predictable attendance is required. Employees may be required to work at occasional events and handle tasks outside of regular working hours.

Background Investigations:

Employment at College of Eastern Idaho will be contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background investigation and may require a credit and/or motor vehicle background investigation, depending on the position. Please refer to Policy 225: Background Checks
