Reporting Relationships

Reports to: Manager of Continuing Education with functional supervision provided by the Program Coordinator, Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP).

Job Summary

The Highway Construction Careers Training Program (HCCTP) seeks a part-time instructor to teach Mathematics for the Trades, providing students pursuing construction careers with a focused refresher on essential math concepts and their practical application in the industry. The instructor will help strengthen foundational skills, build confidence, and improve readiness for apprenticeship entry.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Related duties may be assigned.

  1. Instruct no more than 12 students in construction specific Mathematics for roughly 60 hours out of the 14-week program, twice a year (Fall and Spring).

  2. Work with HCCTP Coordinator to develop lesson plans for student curriculum, including but not limited to whole numbers, fractions and decimals, measurement and conversions, ratios, proportions, and percentages, directed numbers, order of operations, algebra, and geometry.

  3. Use practical applications as appropriately as possible to build student confidence and competence.

  4. Foster an inclusive, respectful learning environment for adult learners with varying math backgrounds.

  5. Strengthen students' test-taking strategies, timing, problem-solving approaches, and interpreting exam questions to improve future assessment outcomes.

  6. Maintain HCCTP supplies and materials.

  7. Monitor student behavior and progress alongside HCCTP Coordinator.

  8. Regular attendance is mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum three years' work experience in an instructor and/or training role.
  • Previous experience in math instruction preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate with HCCTP Coordinator and foster relationships with HCCTP students.
