Job Summary

This Instructor, Nursing position provides academic and practicum instruction within the JoAnne Gay Dishman School of Nursing. Plans,

coordinates, and conducts classroom and/or practicum experiences for students. Reports to the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Nursing Studies or the Assistant Dean for Graduate Nursing Studies (depending on course taught) and the Associate Dean for Nursing Affairs.

Essential Job Functions

Teaches and evaluates students in practicum, laboratory, and/or classroom settings.

• Participates in planning and organization of courses to which assigned.
• Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of course activities.
• Incorporates new knowledge and educational strategies in classroom, practicum, and laboratory teaching.
• Provides academic advising/counseling to assigned students.

Maintains academic standards as established by the School of Nursing, college, and university.

• Participates in School of Nursing activities associated with professional status.
• Provides service the school and profession.

Displays a scholarly orientation to the assumption of the responsibilities of a university faculty member:

• Utilizes teaching-learning principles appropriately.
• Serves as a knowledgeable resource person to students and community.
• Shares professional expertise at the local level.
• Maintains currency in evidence-based practice
• Plans professional development activities for self, such as continuing education offerings, workshops, professional meetings, etc.

Minimum and Desired Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate Degree in Nursing (Masters or Doctoral).
• Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Texas.
• Experience in clinical nursing.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience instructing or precepting students

Supplemental Information

Key Competencies:

• Effective verbal/written communication skills.
• Knowledge of clinical nursing practice and ability to assist students in practicum activities.
• Awareness of current issues/trends in nursing.
• Effective interpersonal and organizational skills.

Physical Requirements: Able to lift 25 lbs and be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including lifting, bending, stooping, squatting, stair climbing and walking between buildings.

Pay Range: Commensurate
