Summary of Duties Faculty plan and teach all courses containing nursing objectives, or direct the teaching of those courses provided by teaching assistants (adjuncts), report to the program administrator, and contribute to the evaluation and implementation of, or changes in program curriculum.

Duties & Responsibilities The Instructor has the responsibility for developing curricula and teaching Nursing Program courses, as well as completing course assessments and student evaluations. In addition, specific duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan and teach Nursing Program courses and laboratories in accordance with Rhodes State College and Ohio Revised Code faculty workload requirements. Faculty in associate degree programs are expected to maintain a teaching assignment that constitutes at least 80% of their total departmental workload.
  • Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of, or changes in program curriculum.
  • Publish through the College Learning Management System (LMS) a SYL syllabus for each student inclusive of all items listed in Chapter 4723-5-19 of the Ohio Revised Code.
  • Design and implement teaching strategies that will assist a nursing student to meet the course objectives or outcomes.
  • Direct and supervise the activities of a teaching assistant/adjunct instructor, if utilized.
  • Evaluate each nursing students achievement and progress with input from the teaching assistant/adjunct, or preceptor, if utilized.
  • Compare the number of planned clinical and laboratory hours as established in the syllabus with the number of actual hours provided to students and report those hours to the program administrator.
  • Plan, supervise, and evaluate clinical experiences for each nursing student inclusive of all items listed in Chapter 4723-5-20 of the Ohio Revised Code.
  • Provide office hours as required by the College for instructional activities such as, but not limited to, student advising, curriculum development, online course development/delivery, textbook review/selection, and assessment activities.
  • Provide required hours of College service. Includes attending faculty and curriculum meetings, participation in professional development, mentoring adjunct instructors, serving on campus committees, and professional and/or community activities.
  • Be committed to implementation of the philosophy and conceptual framework of the Nursing Program.
  • Maintain appropriate professional certifications and licenses as applicable.
  • Teach in other nursing courses as assigned.
  • Understand and be committed to the Rhodes State Community College mission.
  • Actively engage student success and completion initiatives within a comprehensive student support design.
  • Be committed to nursing education.
  • Perform other similar duties as required.

Experience, Skills & Abilities Required:

  • Two or more years experience in the practice of nursing as a registered nurse.
  • Ability to organize activities and to maximize student learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of accrediting bodies appropriate to nursing education program.
  • Must be knowledgeable in delivering instruction via distance education and in accommodating academic schedules to meet the needs of students.

Preferred:

  • Previous teaching experience at a two-year college level.

Education & Certifications Required:

  • Masters of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Masters with a previous BSN.
  • Current, valid license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio or Multi-State license that is valid in the State of Ohio.

Additional Information About this Position: This position consists of a 40-hour work week which may include days, evenings, and/or weekend instructional activities (such as teaching classes, clinical assignments, laboratory activities, etc). Must be able to communicate both orally and in writing; demonstrated working experience with hospitals, extended care facilities, and clinics. The ideal candidate would demonstrate a commitment to the value of developmental education and experience in teaching at both pre-college and college level. Ability to interact positively with students and colleagues is essential. Must be committed to the community college mission and quality instruction.
