Southside Virginia Community College seeks exceptional candidates for the position of Weekend Associate Degree Nursing Faculty (First Year).

The Associate of Applied Science Nursing Program has a weekend option program. The program requires two faculty members one to be employed as a 12-month employee. The program targets working adults or adults with childcare issues. Each faculty member will teach 12 to 15 credits per semester in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical settings, with assignments that may occur on weekends, weekdays, and/or evenings at locations served by the college. This format allows students to finish the program in a year and a half or 18 months versus the traditional 2-year program.

The SVCC Weekend option program is located in Chase City, VA. The successful candidate must be committed to our mission to provide quality education to a diverse constituency. SVCC's Associate degree Program serves over 10 students in multiple locations, including South Boston, Chase City, Keysville, and Alberta. There are two full-time nursing faculty members, along with approximately two adjunct nursing faculty. We offer a SimLab for our students and work very closely with local hospitals.

Transcripts and a resume are required and must be uploaded with your application.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Teaching 15 credit hours (weekends and/or weekdays or evenings) per semester at locations served by the college
  • Provide student advising
  • Must complete all clinical partner requirements, including partner-required vaccinations, as an essential function of the job
  • Participate in professional activities
  • Attend college and program meetings
  • Mentor adjunct instructors
  • Contribute to the program development and assessment
  • Assisting in documentation necessary to meet accreditation standards for The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and standards for the Virginia Board of Nursing
  • Teach the first-year students in the Nursing Program

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing and currently enrolled in a Master's degree in Nursing program and obtain degree within 2 years
  • Must hold a current unencumbered Virginia nursing license (or ability to obtain a Virginia License prior to employment)
  • Minimum two years clinical experience in area of responsibility (medical surgical nursing)
  • Must possess the ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population
  • Sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and technology resources
  • Demonstrated teaching skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Understanding of the community college environment and mission
