Position Overview
The Biology Department at South Plains College supports the college's mission to improve each student's life by providing high-quality, student-focused instruction in the biological sciences. The department prepares students for transfer, health science programs, workforce pathways, and continued academic success through clear instruction, academic support, and meaningful learning experiences.
The primary teaching assignment for this position is Anatomy & Physiology lecture and lab. The department values an integrated approach in which lecture and laboratory experiences complement one another and help students build a strong understanding of anatomical structures, physiological processes, and their relationships. Lecture and lab classes typically average approximately 30 students, allowing for focused instruction and student support.
The department values dedicated faculty who support student learning, maintain regular office hours, participate in departmental responsibilities, and engage in professional development. Faculty are also expected to contribute to a culture of self-reflection and continuous improvement in teaching and learning.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Biology Instructor teaches undergraduate Biology courses, with a primary assignment in Anatomy & Physiology lecture and lab. Responsibilities include planning instruction, assessing student learning, maintaining records, supporting course improvement, and participating in department and college service. Other duties may be assigned in accordance with college policy and the Faculty Handbook.

Required:
Must meet South Plains College and SACSCOC faculty credentialing requirements for teaching undergraduate Anatomy & Physiology courses. Appropriate qualifications may be demonstrated through a combination of the following:

Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with students, faculty, staff, administrators, and the public. Ability to explain biological concepts clearly and invite and respond effectively to student questions. Ability to manage classroom and laboratory environments to support student engagement, safety, and learning. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific articles, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations. Ability to prepare instructional materials, correspondence, reports, and other professional documents.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply principles of logical and scientific thinking to instruction, assessment, and problem-solving. Ability to apply college and department policies, evaluate student learning, and use sound judgment in everyday situations. Ability to use common sense to help create a healthy learning and working environment. Ability to use assessment results and course data to improve teaching and learning.
Technical Skills
Ability to use standard office software, instructional technology, lab equipment, and a learning management system. Ability to maintain electronic records and use technology to support instruction, communication, assessment, and reporting.
