Job Title Instructor of Communication Position Number 998307 Department Communication and Mass Media Salary $43,175 Remote No Job Summary

Angelo State University invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track Instructor of Communication position in the Department of Communication and Mass Media beginning Fall 2026. This nine-month faculty appointment carries a 5/5 teaching load, with primary responsibility for teaching Public Speaking courses. The successful candidate may also serve as Director of Ram Radio and contribute to the department through service, recruitment, and student engagement activities.

Essential Duties

  • Teach undergraduate Public Speaking courses in traditional, online, and dual-credit formats.
  • Teach other undergraduate Communication courses as assigned based on departmental needs and the candidate's qualifications.
  • Serve as Director of Ram Radio, if assigned.
  • Advise and mentor students in academic and co-curricular activities.
  • Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities, including committee work and recruitment efforts.
  • Maintain effective teaching practices and contribute to the mission of the Department of Communication and Mass Media.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of current instructional practices, learner-centered teaching methods, assessment strategies, and student engagement techniques.
  • Skill in utilizing instructional technology and alternative delivery methods, including online instruction.
  • Skill in effective oral and written communication.
  • Ability to teach Public Speaking courses in traditional, online, and dual-credit formats.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate courses in one or more additional communication areas, including argument and debate, oral interpretation, public relations/social media, and radio broadcasting and production.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to contribute to program recruitment, student success initiatives, and departmental service activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Communication, Communication Studies, Speech Communication, or a closely related field.
  • OR a master's degree in another discipline with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Communication.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to teach a variety of Public Speaking courses in traditional, online, and dual-credit formats.
  • Willingness to participate in departmental service activities and student recruitment efforts.
  • Willingness to serve as Director of Ram Radio.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the following areas: oral interpretation, argument and debate, public relations, social media, radio broadcasting, or production.
  • Experience managing student organizations or student media outlets.
  • Experience in radio broadcasting, podcasting, or related media production.
  • Previous teaching experience at the college or dual-credit level.
