Summary

The Complex Endovascular Aortic Fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine is a one-year, non-ACGME advanced training program designed to provide comprehensive, subspecialty training in complex endovascular and hybrid aortic surgery.

This fellowship is intended for board-eligible or board-certified vascular or cardiothoracic surgeons seeking advanced expertise beyond standard residency or fellowship training. The program integrates advanced aortic imaging, complex endovascular techniques, open aortic exposure, and investigational device research within a high-volume academic environment.

Job Duties

Fellows will gain advanced proficiency in:

• Evaluation and management of complex aortic disease, including thoracoabdominal aneurysms, dissections, and reoperative pathology
• Comprehensive procedural planning, including device selection, sizing, and strategy development
• Advanced imaging interpretation and procedural correlation, including CT-based planning and postoperative surveillance
• Execution of complex endovascular and hybrid procedures with progressive operative responsibility under faculty supervision
• Perioperative management of high-risk aortic surgery patients in a multidisciplinary setting
• Fellows also gain exposure to open aortic and hybrid procedures, ensuring a complete understanding of surgical decision-making across all treatment modalities.
• Scholarly and Teaching Opportunities

Fellows are expected to:

• Participate in multidisciplinary conferences, including M&M and aortic case reviews
• Contribute to clinical research, outcomes analysis, and quality improvement initiatives
• Participate in investigational device studies and clinical trials
• Engage in clinical outcomes research and manuscript preparation
• Present at regional, national, or international meetings
• Teach medical students, residents, and trainees in imaging-based education settings

Minimum Qualifications

• Board-eligible or board-certified in vascular surgery or cardiothoracic surgery
• Have completed an ACGME-accredited residency/fellowship or equivalent international training
• Eligible for Texas Medical Board licensure
• Demonstrate strong academic and clinical interest in aortic disease and endovascular therapy
• International applicants are eligible and may be considered based on equivalent training and credentials.
