Postion Summary

Tougaloo College invites applications for a full-time faculty position as an Instructor or Assistant Professor of Chemistry, beginning as early as August 2026. The successful candidate will teach a broad range of undergraduate Chemistry (lectures and laboratories) courses, including, but not limited to, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and related disciplines. They will also advise and mentor students in academic and research contexts, participate in departmental, college, and professional service activities, and continue professional development to remain current. Additionally, a tenure-track assistant professor is expected to develop and maintain an active research program which will be able to engage and encourage the creativity of undergraduate students. Postdoctoral research experience is preferred.

Experience/Qualifications

Applicants for the Assistant Professor position must hold a Ph.D. in Chemistry by the time of appointment; ABD candidates will be considered with the expectation that the degree will be completed by the end of December 2026. Applicants for the Instructor position must hold a master's degree in Chemistry. All candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, student mentoring, and an inclusive learning environment. Candidates for the tenure-track position should also show evidence of scholarly potential and the ability to establish a productive research agenda.

At least one reference should address teaching effectiveness, and for tenure-track position applicants, at least one should speak to research potential in chemistry.
