Job Description Summary
Faculty in this tenure-track position will teach a minimum of fifteen (15) lecture-equated hours per regular semester, principally in introductory Ethics. Teaching assignments may vary based on department need and may include Introduction to Philosophy, Logic, and/or other Philosophy offerings. Course assignments could be split between Del Mar College campuses or off-site locations in the Corpus Christi service area in response to institutional need.
Philosophy faculty are required to work with students of varied backgrounds, including traditional, nontraditional, and dual-credit/early-college students; to maintain professional standards of competence in the discipline and teaching methodology through professional development/engagement; to develop appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community; and to meet all fundamental responsibilities for faculty as outlined in Del Mar College policy.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Excellent knowledge of the field of Philosophy and of the various disciplines within the field, particularly Ethics.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Detail oriented with excellent time-management skills.
Ability to build successful relationships with varied student populations.
Ability to teach and to communicate with students of varied multicultural backgrounds.
Ability to contribute to the overall mission of the College.
Willingness to teach at multiple campuses and/or off-site locations.
Excellent written communication skills and relevant professional experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree with at least 18 graduate semester credit hours in philosophy.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Philosophy or closely related field.
Additional education and/or experience in Philosophy and/or qualifications to teach developmental or college-level English courses.
College-level teaching experience in introductory ethics, including community college experience or equivalent.
Qualifications to teach and/or experience teaching Logic or equivalent coursework.
Demonstrated understanding and documented use of current theories and methods of teaching in the field that includes innovative pedagogy and technology.

Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students who have differing educational and experiential backgrounds in meeting the course outcomes.
Teach assigned courses in a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need.

Meet professional assignments in accordance with the College calendar.
Teach assigned classes and laboratories according to the schedule.
Provide students with a written and accessible course syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and facilitates a clear understanding between student and instructor of the content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods and schedule of work.
Hold scheduled, posted virtual or physical office hours of at least one (1) hour daily and be available for and encourage conferences with students so there is a clearer understanding of the students' work and the possibility of improvement.

Evaluate students to measure their progress toward achievement of stated course outcomes within the College grade and grade appeals procedures.
Review, evaluate, recommend, and effectively use student learning materials.
Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community.
Review, evaluate, and revise assessments of program and institutional student learning outcomes and program practices to bring about action plans devised to implement systemic improvement in programs and assure compliance with professional standards, state-mandated guidelines, and requirements of business/industry and higher education.

Participate in the self- evaluation process.
Establish goals and objectives which may include personal and professional development plans in consultation with the department chair.
Maintain professional standards of competence in the discipline and teaching methodology through professional development/engagement activities.
Assist in academic advising of declared majors. Assist with marketing programs and recruiting students.

Serve on committees.
Accept special assignments occasionally.
Participate in scheduled institutional activities which include convocation and graduation ceremonies.
Participate in department, divisional, and College meetings.
Participate in College-related activities such as registration and selection of faculty.

Participate in the College planning process by assisting in the formulation of goals and objectives and budget priorities.
Participate in business and/or community activities that promote the mission of the College.
