    Position Description

    DEFINITION:

    To provide classroom instruction at designated work sites through lecture, demonstration, laboratory exercises, handouts, responding to questions, and testing.

    Employees within this class are supervised by CFCC but must also follows the rules, policies and procedures of the partnering educational institution.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

    • Receives supervision from Workforce Training Coordinator.
    • Exercises no supervision.

    Duties & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

    ESSENTIAL AND OTHER IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS STATEMENTS:

    Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to:

    Essential Functions:

    • Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students.
    • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities; develop, and prepare supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons.
    • Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade and record individual scores.
    • Act as an advisor and academic counselor to students as needed.
    • Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands on experience as appropriate.
    • Participate in curriculum development, evaluation, and change; attend faculty meetings as required.
    • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, and performance; maintain other records and databases according to program needs, and accreditation requirements.
    • Stay abreast of new developments, and changes in various academic fields; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education programs as appropriate.
    • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area.
    • Participate on college committees and in other institutional activities and programs.

    Other Important Functions:

    • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lesson format; evaluate various text books and select books to be used for future classes.
    • Ensure a safe learning environment by following and enforcing all classroom, laboratory, and equipment safety procedures.
    • Demonstrate community involvement.
    • Instruct Plumbing CU classes.
    • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Knowledge:

    • Classroom and laboratory instructional techniques and procedures.
    • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment.
    • Current trends, research, and development in the area of assignment.
    • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
    • Principles and techniques involved in test development and administration.
    • Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes, and regulations.

    Ability To:

    • Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

    • Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, procedures, laws and regulations.

    • Maintain effective audio-visual discrimination and perception needed for:

    • making observations

    • reading and writing

    • communicating with others

    • operating assigned equipment

    • handling varied tasks simultaneously.

    • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities which may include the following:

    • standing or sitting for extended periods of time

    • operating assigned equipment

    • preparing and presenting instructional material.

    • Maintain mental capacity, which allows the capability of:

    • making sound decisions

    • responding to questions

    • demonstrating intellectual capabilities.

    • Communicate clearly, and concisely, both orally and in writing.

    • Establish and maintain cooperative-working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

    EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

    Minimum Education/Training:

    • Education or Certification(s) or Industry experience

    Preferred Education/Training, Experience, Skills:

    • 5 years plumbing/pipefitting work experience preferred.
    • NCCER instructor training.
    • OSHA 10 Construction instructor training.
    • One or more years of experience in an instructional setting as a tutor or teacher is preferred.

    Work Environment:

    • This position is located at the designated work site of our partnering educational institution(s) and/or the CFCC Campus locations. CFCC Campus locations are Downtown, North (Castle Hayne), Burgaw, and Surf City (Hampstead). This may include traveling from one instructional location to the other in the same day. The schedule may vary.
    • This position receives specific direction from the rules, policies and procedures of our partnering educational institution.
