The City of Pasadena - Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department has an immediate need for an instructor (Youth Sports) knowledgeable and passionate about youth sports. This position requires experience in instructing techniques and fundamentals of basketball and flag football. This opportunity will provide the ability to coach, train, recruit, and officiate sporting activities in a community rich in sportsmanship.
Instructor (Youth Sports) teaches and instructs the youth sports program and possesses knowledge of game rules and fundamentals. The ideal candidate must be punctual, reliable, and available during youth sports hours which will include evenings and weekends. The successful candidate must be inclusive, innovative, and able to work with a variety of parents, staff, and participants of varied cultural backgrounds and demographics.
Work Schedule - works up to 19 hours per week with a varied work schedule that may include working evenings and weekends. Typically, youth sports working hours are Monday through Friday 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturdays 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Hours are subject to change.

Special Requirements
Instructor (Youth Sports) position works up to 19 hours per week with a varied work schedule that may include working evenings and weekends. Typically, youth sports working hours are Monday through Friday 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Saturdays 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Please note hours may be adjusted as needed to accommodate program requirements and class schedules.
FICA Alternative Plan:
The City of Pasadena does not participate in Social Security. In lieu of Social Security, hourly employees who are not already members of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) are automatically enrolled in the FICA Alternative plan administered by Public Agency Retirement Services (PARS) upon date of hire. Employees contribute 7.5% of the gross earnings on a pre-tax basis to the plan.

The City of Pasadena contracts with the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS) to offer a defined benefits program for eligible employees.
"New" CalPERS members are subject to the provisions of the Public Employees' Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA) and receive the following benefit formula: 2% at 62

The City contracts with CalPERS to offer several comprehensive health plans that include Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plans and Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) to hourly employees who work at least 30 hours a week.
