    Instrument Fitter Journey

    Location: Notrees, TX

    Type: Full Time

    General Information/Job Summary

    This position title is referred to as “Instrument Fitter.”  This classification would know how read instrument detail and location drawings to be able to install any instrument and support materials, as well as mount instruments, as per drawings. This Journey employee is responsible for knowing and following appropriate safety procedures to make safety checks and conduct safety meetings, and for coordinating with operating personnel regarding permits and clearances to initiate maintenance and repair activities.

    Under direction, is responsible forinstallation,maintenance,repair,calibrationanddocumentation of instrumentation, data communication, and electricalequipment as to provide fully functional instrument and control systems.

    Responsibilities

    • Determines methods and materials needed to accomplish assigned maintenance, repair, or construction.
    • Performs lock-out and tag-out procedures to secure switchgear and deactivate equipment and checks local switch point to ensure proper lock-out procedures are used.
    • Dismantles equipment or devices to gain access to and remove defective parts or components. Troubleshoots, inspects, and maintains equipment.
    • Removes and replaces operating equipment.
    • Calibrates equipment, tunes, and adjusts equipment to meet established tolerances.
    • Performs miscellaneous tasks that require manually moving materials, tools, and equipment and use of hand tools and power tools.
    • Performs work area clean-up and safety-related duties.
    • Completes paperwork documenting installation,repair, and maintenance activities. Updates and maintains documentation such as electrical blueprints and schematics.
    • Installs new and used equipment such as controllers, flow meters, pressure transmitters, analytical instrumentation controls, recorders, alarm panels, PLC’s, modems, and display panels, including all instrument piping, automatic transfer switchgears, ultrasonic transmitters.
    • Read loop sheets, P&IDs, and blueprints.
    • Work to disassemble and remove instruments and then reinstall.
    • Perform tube bending; tube bending in groups; install instrument stands, instrument air. headers, instruments, tube tray; screw pipe; deco trace; steam tracking.
    • Calibrates, tunes, and balances control loops and hardware routinely to ensure accuracy of operation forequipment such as recorders, flow meters, and controllers.
    • Programs and documents PLC’s and maintains files.
    • Requiresworking in operating facilities and observing and abiding by additional safety policies and procedures.
    • Gives suitable assignments to helpers.
    • Other duties as assigned

    Qualifications

    • Four (4)years of experience in workinvolving a variety of layout,installation, and maintenance tasks
    • Possess validdrivers’ license with a gooddriving record

    • Ability to pass drug test as mandated by the Saulsbury Industries and Department of Transportation anti-drug program
    • Must attend and successfully complete Saulsbury Industries safety training education
    • Attends safety meetings and specialty training as directed by management
    • Attends various training classes as may be assigned by management
    • Perform related duties and responsibilities as
    • Ability to take needed safety precautions in performing the work

    • Ability to maintain balance on catwalksandnarrowworkspaces
    • Ability to stand forlongperiods of time
    • Ability to workinawkward positions.
    • Ability to reach above head while sitting or standing
    • Ability to reach below knees while standing
    • Ability to stoop or kneel
    • Ability to work 50 or more hours each week

    • Reading comprehension skill to understand work orders, written instructions, technical manuals, safety procedures, and parts catalogs.
    • Mathematical skill to perform basic calculations.
    • Oral communication skillsforroutine and technical information exchangewithco-workers,supervisors, or other personnel.
    • Skill in using hand signals.
    • Skill in diagnosing malfunctions in equipment and identifying corrective action (troubleshooting skill).
    • Mechanical ability to understand the operation of instrument control loops and performs major equipmentrepairs.
    • Ability to plan and coordinate maintenance and repair activities.
    • Ability to communicate with others and to assimilate and understand information, in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
    • Ability to evaluatework conditions and quality, and to make decisions regarding course of actions (decision making.)
    • Obtained license as necessary to workinregulated states and municipalities.
