Arora and Associates, PC is seeking an Instrument Operator to join our Land Surveying Department in New York City, NY. Applicant must be a responsible, motivated, detail-oriented individual with strong technical and computer skills, and able to work in a team environment in the office and in the field. This is a field position with required travel between the office and job sites in New Jersey and New York, using company vehicles.DUTIES: Operate a variety of surveying instruments, including:GNSS-RTN (Real-Time Network) receivers for high-precision positioningTotal stations for conventional data collectionMobile LiDAR systems for corridor and roadway surface mappingCollect accurate geospatial data to support:Bridge design and inspection projectsRoadway design, rehabilitation, and asset managementAs-built surveys and existing condition documentationEnsure data collection aligns with project control networks and coordinate systems (e.g., state plane, local grid)Perform field calibrations and instrument checks to maintain accuracy and compliance with quality standardsAssist in planning and executing data acquisition missions with consideration for safety, accessibility, and site conditionsRecord and manage metadata, field notes, and environmental conditions relevant to each data collection effortCollaborate with project managers, surveyors, and engineers to confirm survey requirements and data needsPost-process or prepare collected data for office staff, including point cloud formatting, file naming, and preliminary QA/QCMaintain survey equipment, ensuring readiness and proper function for all field activitiesAdhere to safety protocols and traffic control requirements while working in active roadway or bridge environmentsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 1 to 2 years' experience doing the following:Operation of survey equipment such as total stations, data collectors, levels and (GPS)Using software to download survey data from data collectorsAbility to work on construction sites in NJ weatherWilling and able to work overtime and to travel for out-of-town assignmentsA valid driver's licenseCOMPENSATION $30-35/hrABOUT ARORA and ASSOCIATES, PC Arora and Associates, PC is a regional, full-service civil engineering and transportation design firm with a proven track record of success.
