Overview:The qualified Survey Instrument person is utilized to operate and maintain the survey instrumentation for low-tech activities such as profile surveys, line locations, Pipeline Re-Stake, Line Clearing, Line Locating, Loop Line Setup, and River/Road Crossings. Responsible for assigned surveying activities including turning angles, shooting distances and the collection of the necessary survey data. Works closely with the Survey Party Chief to execute the survey work and the methods to be used. Assists Survey Party Chief in implementing project survey policies, guidelines, and procedures. Orients assigned survey personnel on project requirements and assigns tasks to carry out the performance of survey activities. Monitors survey personnel performance and documentation to assure quality, consistency, and compliance to project requirements. Guides, coaches or motivates survey personnel as necessary to meet project schedules, budgets, and objectives. Assists Survey Party Chief in resolving survey performance issues with the client representative and landowners that threaten the timely completion of the project survey activities.
Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
EDUCATION
*High School Diploma/GED preferred
*Global Positioning Systems (GPS) knowledge preferred
*Must have a valid driver's license
EXPERIENCE:
*Minimum experience required is two years surveying experience with previous Instrumentman experience
*Must be knowledgeable in the electronic data collection methods of cross-country pipeline surveying
*Must have knowledge of survey instrumentation operating procedures and survey data collection techniques
LICENSING:
*ACSM Survey Technician Certificate preferred

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
*Requires good oral communication skills
*Must be able to write clearly and concisely to prepare reports, field notes, specifications and correspondence
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
*Basic knowledge to support technical, administrative analysis
*Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry
REASONING ABILITY:
*Identify and solve organizational and other business-related problems
*Identify and solve complex technical and administrative problems
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
*Effective problem-solving skills, especially when dealing with conflicting personalities
*Creativity, foresight and mature judgment to identify potential problem areas and effect a solution at the earliest possible time
*Good working knowledge of TRC project operations
*Demonstrated leadership and supervisory skills
*Ability to travel as dictated by job requirements
*Proficiency in PC operation, including spreadsheet and word processing programs. Experience in database operations and the use of engineering programs preferred
*Willingness to relocate to domestic or foreign locations
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to walk 2-10 miles per day while carrying supplies and equipment. Ability to clear line with a machete, brush axe, or chain saw.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Outdoor environment. Must be able to perform job duties in a variety of terrain ranging from swamps to deserts to forests to mountains. Must also be able to perform job duties in various extreme climates, in every type of weather, ranging from 10 degrees and snowing to 110 degrees desert heat. Must be able to deal with a variety of creatures such as bears, snakes, spiders, insects, and other wildlife.

Compensation: Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.
Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company’s annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
