Position 1: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Position 2: 6:30 AM – 3:30 PM
One candidate is needed for each shift.
The Instrument Technician I is responsible for performing a variety of duties within the Sterile Processing Department, including decontamination, cleaning, inspection, preparation, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments, trays, equipment, and supplies.
The position works under direct supervision and helps maintain a clean, organized environment while preventing cross-contamination through proper use of dress codes, environmental policies, traffic control, PPE, and safety procedures.
Perform decontamination, inspection, cleaning, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical/surgical equipment.
Build case carts by accurately pulling supplies and instruments for scheduled, urgent, and emergent surgical procedures.
Prepare and distribute trays, sets, equipment, and OR supplies.
Follow proper aseptic technique, sterilization, decontamination, and assembly procedures.
Use chemicals and PPE safely and appropriately.
Maintain compliance with OSHA, The Joint Commission, AAMI, AORN, AST, and departmental safety standards and procedures.
Use computer systems to log trays, equipment, and case carts.
Assist with routine cleaning and organization of the department.
Provide professional and courteous customer service to patients, families, visitors, coworkers, and other departments.
Communicate effectively and help address customer concerns and complaints.
Answer and route telephone calls as needed.
Maintain a neat, organized, and safe work environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of sterile processing, aseptic technique, decontamination, sterilization, cleaning, assembly, and packaging procedures.
Basic knowledge of surgical procedures and surgical instruments, including classification, disassembly, and cleaning.
Ability to follow hospital, departmental, and regulatory safety standards.
Strong communication, organization, customer service, and teamwork skills.
Ability to use computers and department-specific systems.
Minimum of 1 year of Instrument Technician/Sterile Processing experience, OR
Vocational training in Sterile Processing, Supply Distribution, or related experience in a hospital, clinic, or medical laboratory.
High School Diploma or GED required.
BLS – American Heart Association (AHA)
One of the following certifications is required:
CBSPD – Certified Sterile Processing & Distribution Technician
HSPA – Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS)
HSPA – Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST)
