Summary:

  • Performs and serves as a resource for decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of all basic and specialized complex instrumentation. Troubleshoots equipment and/or product failure and reports findings to Senior Manager of Sterile Processing.

Responsibilities:

    1. Consistently ensures that instrument sets are complete prior to sterilization, record all missing items that are not replaced in the instrument sets and replace missing items whenever possible. 2. Demonstrates understanding of basic principles of sterilization methods and operates sterilizers according to manufacturers recommendations. Troubleshoot errors and present detailed description to service person. 3. Displays complete knowledge in identifying surgical instruments and educate sterile processing technicians on DH names for instruments. Have knowledge of picture books of instruments and location to assist with rarely used sets to assure accuracy. 4. Reviews documentations, sterilization test results, and equipment monitors and records for accuracy. 5. Keep Department Manager informed of problems with associates, customers, or vendors in a timely manner when emergent or bring detailed events to weekly meetings. 6. Ensure staff follow cleaning procedures per manufacture's instructions. a. Educate staff on new technology, instruments, or procedures in the SP department. b. Able to teach and assist in the training of SP Associates c. Coordinate the orientation of new employees in consultation with the Dept Manager d. Mentors and trains peers to achieve departmental goals e. Participates in training and orientation of SP Technicians
